Four-star junior center Thomas Sorber from Philadelphia, who holds a Syracuse basketball offer, has cut his list of contenders still in the running to four schools, and the Orange didn’t make the cut.

According to an article from On3 national analyst Joe Tipton, the 6-foot-9 Sorber has a top four of Georgetown, Miami, Providence and Villanova.

While I’m bummed that the ‘Cuse isn’t still in the running for Sorber, I’m not surprised that Syracuse basketball is no longer in the mix for him.

Not too long ago, the Orange coaching staff offered another four-star center in the 2024 class, and that to me indicated that perhaps the ‘Cuse wasn’t a significant contender at this time for Sorber, who is a top-70 national prospect and a top-10 center in his cycle, per multiple recruiting services.

Syracuse basketball didn’t make the top four for 2024 four-star center Thomas Sorber.

Sorber is a standout for Archbishop Ryan High School in Philadelphia as well as the Philadelphia-based Team Final in Nike’s EYBL league on the AAU circuit. In the 2022-23 stanza, as a junior for Archbishop Ryan, Sorber won numerous local and national honors.

In March, Syracuse basketball coaches watched Sorber in person as he competed for Archbishop Ryan during post-season play. As I noted in another column, a media report from late March indicated that Sorber wanted to take a visit to the Hill, but that didn’t occur.

He did recently take an official visit to Georgetown and also has unofficially visited Villanova, according to Tipton. There is at least one prediction out there on the 247Sports Web site in the direction of the Hoyas in Sorber’s recruitment.

The Orange offered a scholarship to him in August of 2022, around the time that Sorber competed in the team’s annual Elite Camp.

His offer sheet includes squads such as Villanova, Xavier, Miami, Seton Hall, St. John’s, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech, Maryland, Georgetown, Providence, Mississippi State, Richmond, La Salle, Saint Joseph’s, Bryant, George Mason, Drexel and Albany.

Recently, Syracuse basketball coaches offered a scholarship to 2024 four-star center Patrick Ngongba II, who attends the St. Paul VI Catholic High School in Chantilly, Va., and runs with the Washington, D.C.-based Team Takeover in Nike’s EYBL league.

The 6-foot-10 Ngongba has said that he would like to take a visit to the Orange campus at some point in the future. His AAU teammate, 2024 four-star power forward Donnie Freeman from St. John’s College High School in D.C., is a high-priority target for the ‘Cuse in the junior class.

I’m wishing Thomas all the best in his recruitment moving forward!
