Syracuse Basketball: 4-star commit Elijah Moore has power dunk, deep 3s
By Neil Adler
Syracuse basketball 2024 commit Elijah Moore, a four-star shooting guard from New York City, competed in an AAU event this past weekend in Pennsylvania, and he’s earning high praise for his play.
The 6-foot-4 Moore, a top-80 national prospect and a top-20 shooting guard in the junior cycle, plays in grassroots basketball for the Bronx, N.Y.-based Wiz Kids in the Adidas league.
Over the weekend, the Wiz Kids competed in the 2023 KYDA Invitational, which featured AAU squads across several shoe-sponsored circuits and was held in Scranton, Pa.
Per at least one media report from a writer who watched Elijah Moore in person, the Orange pledge put on a stellar display, showcasing his athleticism as well as his exceptional shooting from beyond the arc.
Syracuse basketball four-star commit Elijah Moore is a dynamic, versatile guard.
Josh Verlin, the editor-in-chief of the City of Basketball Love Web site, was on hand for Saturday action at this year’s KYDA Invitational and watched Moore.
"Here’s what Verlin had to say about Elijah Moore: “The Syracuse commit was cooking, first in a win over NEPA Elite (caught some of the second half and watched Moore go off), then throughout all of a five-point win over WeR1 to cap off the first day. The 6-4 guard from Cardinal Hayes (N.Y.) buried five triples en route to at least a 23-point outing, showcasing a terrific ability to catch-and-shoot or pull-up from just about anywhere, and then showed his athleticism with a powerful driving dunk that brought an ‘oooooh’ from just about everybody in the gym. Ever bit the modern combo guard who can do a bit of everything.”"
National recruiting analysts and scouts have long said that Elijah Moore is one of the top 3-point shooters in the 2024 cycle, but observers more recently have noted that Moore’s all-around game is evolving, whether it’s getting to the rim and finishing through contact, rebounding with proficiency, and playing defense at a strong level.
Moore had a stellar junior season in the 2022-23 campaign for Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx, N.Y. He helped lead Cardinal Hayes to the New York “AA” Archdiocesan tournament title earlier this year, and Moore was named to the 2022-23 New York state Catholic High School Athletic Association (“CHSAA”) “AA” All-League first team.
In late January, Elijah Moore verbally committed to Syracuse basketball over other finalists Alabama, Arkansas, Miami and Oklahoma State. I personally believe that he will end up as a top-50 national player in the 2024 cycle when all is said and done.
