Syracuse Basketball: Former recruit to join 4-star target at titan Montverde
By Neil Adler
A former Syracuse basketball recruit will join the loaded roster of a Florida powerhouse, where he will team up with a current Orange target.
Per a tweet from high-school hoops analyst and scout Samad Hines, 2024 four-star point guard Robert Wright III will transfer for the 2023-24 season, his senior year, to the juggernaut Montverde Academy in Montverde, Fla.
The 6-foot-1 Wright held a scholarship offer from the ‘Cuse. In late August of 2022, he took an unofficial visit to the Hill to compete in the Orange’s annual Elite Camp.
Wright was stellar as a junior at Neumann-Goretti High School in Philadelphia. According to Hines, in 2022-23, Wright averaged 22.2 points, 5.1 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 2.4 steals per contest.
In grassroots basketball, Wright is a standout for the Philadelphia-based Team Final in Nike’s EYBL league. He verbally committed to Baylor, the 2021 national champion, in September of 2022.
A former Syracuse basketball recruit is joining a four-star target in the Sunshine State.
Year in and year out, Montverde is among the premier high-school teams across the country. The Eagles captured the prestigious GEICO Nationals in 2021 and 2022, and they were the No. 1 seed in this year’s GEICO Nationals that transpired not too long ago.
However, Montverde was upset in the quarterfinals by the No. 8 seed, Sunrise Christian Academy in Bel Aire, Kan. The No. 4 seed Link Academy in Branson, Mo., won the 2023 GEICO Nationals, led by former ‘Cuse recruit Elliot Cadeau, a 2024 five-star point guard and North Carolina commit.
On the 2022-23 roster at Montverde has been Syracuse basketball target Curtis Givens III, a 2024 four-star point guard who transferred there from the Memphis University School in Memphis, Tenn.
The 6-foot-3 Givens, offered a scholarship by Syracuse basketball this past February, is a top-60 national prospect and a top-10 point guard in the junior cycle, according to several recruiting services.
According to all of the primary recruiting services, Wright is a top-50 overall player. Most recruiting Web sites also rate him as a top-10 point guard in the 2024 class.
Two of Wright’s Team Final colleagues are Syracuse basketball 2024 four-star priority recruits. They are center Thomas Sorber of Archbishop Ryan High School in Philadelphia and guard Jalil Bethea of Archbishop Wood Catholic High School in Warminster, Pa.
In a final set of national rankings from MaxPreps national basketball editor Jordan Divens, Montverde finished at No. 2 around the country, compiling a 23-3 record. The Eagles were champions of the loaded National Interscholastic Basketball Conference, a 10-team super league of independent basketball academies and elite prep schools.
