Syracuse basketball has reached out to Auburn transfer Chance Westry

A report from 247Sports says that Syracuse basketball coaches have reached out to Auburn transfer Chance Westry, a former Orange recruiting target in the 2022 class. I’ve been able to independently confirm that the ‘Cuse coaching staff has reached out to Westry.
On Tuesday, the 6-foot-6 guard said in a statement to On3 national analyst Joe Tipton that he “will be entering the (NCAA’s) transfer portal with four years of eligibility. I look forward to exploring new opportunities for the next chapter of my basketball career.”
Per 247Sports, Westry has heard from numerous college teams, including Syracuse basketball, Florida, Georgia, La Salle, Maryland, Memphis, Miami, Michigan, Mississippi State, Seton Hall and St. John’s.
Chance Westry, who is from Harrisburg, Pa., was a freshman at Southeastern Conference member Auburn during the 2022-23 season. Reports say he is taking a redshirt for the 2022-23 stanza as he dealt with injury.
Syracuse basketball may have some interest in Auburn transfer Chance Westry.
Westry was a four-star, top-40 national prospect in the 2022 cycle, according to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite. Orange coaches offered a scholarship to him in the summer of 2019. He did take an official visit to the Hill and had the ‘Cuse in his initial top 10.
Suiting up in his senior year for the powerhouse AZ Compass Prep School in Chandler, Ariz., Chance Westry committed to Auburn on Oct. 31, 2021.
In the 2021-22 term, he averaged 13.8 points, 3.4 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.3 steals per contest, helping lead AZ Compass Prep to receive a berth in the 2022 GEICO Nationals.
In 2022-23, as a freshman for the Tigers, Chance Westry appeared in just 11 games. He averaged 9.3 minutes, 2.5 points and 1.0 assists per encounter, while hitting on 31.6 percent from the field and 42.9 percent from the charity stripe.
Auburn went 21-13 overall this season, reaching the round of 32 in the 2023 NCAA Tournament, where the No. 9 seed Tigers lost to No. 1 seed Houston.
I believe that Chance Westry can play both point guard and shooting guard. And at 6-foot-6, he may also be potentially a good fit at small forward.
For the ‘Cuse ahead of 2023-24, from a backcourt perspective, senior shooting guard Joe Girard III and senior guard Symir Torrence are both in the transfer portal. Girard will also test the 2023 NBA Draft waters while maintaining his college eligibility, something that freshman point guard Judah Mintz is also doing.
Additionally, Central New York native and combo guard J.J. Starling , a freshman, will transfer from Notre Dame to Syracuse basketball.
