One of the top sophomores across the entire country has a lot of interest in Syracuse football, according to a recent interview that he conducted with the terrific SyracuseOnSI publisher, Mike McAllister.
Lamason Waller is a four-star athlete in the 2025 class who suits up on the west coast for Sultana High School in Hesperia, Calif. In a recent article by McAllister, the 6-foot-2, 170-pound Waller had numerous positive things to say about his relationship with the Orange coaching staff.
"Waller said that he is in regular communication with Syracuse football wide receivers coach Michael Johnson, according to McAllister. “Talk about ball, talk about life, talk about family and he checks up on me sometimes,” Waller said of his conversations with Johnson. “He’s a really good guy.”"
Waller added, “We’ve built a great bond. He came to my school and had a meeting with me and my mom. He also has a good bond with my mom and that’s important to me.”
Syracuse football seems to be a contender, at least for now, for 2025 four-star athlete Lamason Waller.
Per McAllister, both Syracuse football coaches and Waller are hoping to get this top-flight player on the ‘Cuse campus for a visit sometime this spring. That would prove huge for the Orange’s chances here.
According to his bio on the 247Sports Web site, Waller is primarily being recruited by college teams as a wide receiver. As a sophomore, he hauled in 64 catches for 1,057 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns. On defense, Waller posted 36 tackles and two interceptions.
In January of this year, he was named to the 2022 MaxPreps sophomore All-America second team.
While Waller is high on Syracuse football, the competition is ridiculously steep. Per Rivals.com, Waller has more than 50 scholarship offers from a range of high-major programs.
His offer sheet includes Arkansas, Boston College, Florida State, two-time defending national champion Georgia, Houston, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oregon, Ole Miss, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Purdue, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, West Virginia, Utah, Auburn, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Miami and Washington, among others.
According to 247Sports, Orange coaches offered a scholarship to Waller in mid-January of 2023.
I’ll certainly continue to track his recruitment moving forward, and I do hope that Syracuse football can get him on the Hill for a visit in the future.
"In his interview with McAllister, Waller said of the ‘Cuse, “I’m interested in the program a ton. I’ve built a great bond with coach Johnson. That is my guy. And I obviously love the academic standpoint of the school. They are in a good spot with me as far as recruiting.”"
Love it.
By the way, multiple recruiting services rate Waller as a top-100 national prospect, a top-10 athlete and a top-15 player in the talent-rich state of California within the 2025 cycle.
