With the 2023 NFL Draft right around the corner, the Syracuse football team has a few players heading to Kansas City, Missouri, to see if they will hear their names called and find a new home in the NFL, including star running back Sean Tucker.
We take a look at the draft profile of one of the Orange entering the NFL Draft and who was a key piece to the Syracuse offense this past season, Sean Tucker. The 2023 NFL Draft will take place from Thursday, April 27, until Saturday, April 29.
Let’s take a look at the draft profile of former Syracuse football star RB Sean Tucker.
Player Profile
Sean Tucker was a three-star recruit by ESPN out of Calvert Hall College High School before he would join the Syracuse Orange in 2020. As a freshman, Tucker would only see nine games, but he ran for 626 yards on 137 attempts and four touchdowns.
Over time, Tucker would improve his game, which was shown in his third season with the Orange (which would be his final season with the Orange), where he would rush for 1,060 yards on 206 attempts and 11 touchdowns. Tucker was a key piece to the Orange offense, that would start the 2022 season 6-0 for the first time since 1987 and make it to a bowl game this past season, along with quarterback Garrett Shrader and wide receiver Oronde Gadsden ll.
Overall Rating: 88 overall
Tucker’s ability to get through defenses, find ways to get open downfield, and show his speed when given the open field, would make him a perfect pick for any team that needs a solid running back that can both catch and run the ball all game long.
Even though his speed isn’t quite up to NFL level (yet) and his hesitation at the line of scrimmage does hurt his draft profile a little bit, he can make up for it by getting into the end zone, his ability to gain yards after tackle, and fight for every yard saves his profile, which is why he doesn’t quite break 90 overall, but 88 overall is still solid for the former Syracuse football running back.
Most Likely To Land: Chicago Bears, Miami Dolphins, Denver Broncos (3+ others)
Tucker will mostly likely go either early to the mid-second round or early third round in the 2023 NFL Draft, as he will be in the same class as the Texas Longhorns’ Bijan Robinson, the Georgia Bulldogs’ Kenny McIntosh, and the Alabama Crimson Tide’s Jahmyr Gibbs.
With the amount of talent that a lot of teams are looking for in the NFL Draft, Tucker will most likely be going to a team that needs help at the running back position, even though he won’t be a starter. The Chicago Bears, Miami Dolphins, Denver Broncos, New England Patriots, New York Giants, and New Orleans Saints all need solid backups and starters at the running back position.
The 2023 NFL Draft is from April 27th through the 29th in Kansas City, Missouri. Make sure you watch to see where Sean Tucker and other former Syracuse football players land.
