Syracuse basketball 5-star PG target Boogie Fland balls out, wins NYC title
By Neil Adler
In a battle of a Syracuse basketball 2024 four-star commit versus a 2024 five-star recruit, the Orange target, stellar point guard Boogie Fland, and his teammates captured a New York City championship before the entire ‘Cuse coaching staff.
The 6-foot-3 Fland, who was offered a scholarship by the Orange in January, tallied 30 points, four assists, and two steals on Sunday as his squad, Archbishop Stepinac High School from White Plains, N.Y., knocked off Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx, N.Y., by a final count of 69-66.
That result gave Archbishop Stepinac the New York Catholic High School Athletic Association (“CHSAA”) “AA” intersectional (city) championship.
One of the standouts for Cardinal Hayes is Syracuse basketball 2024 four-star pledge Elijah Moore, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard who verbally committed to the ‘Cuse in late January over other finalists Alabama, Arkansas, Miami and Oklahoma State.
Syracuse basketball five-star target Boogie Fland claims a title in the Big Apple.
On Sunday afternoon, Boogie Fland was excellent as Archbishop Stepinac got past Cardinal Hayes. I haven’t come across a full box score to determine what Moore’s statistics were in this contest, but this story said he collected 18 points.
This enticing encounter took place at St. John’s University in Queens. As I noted on Saturday, the full Orange coaching staff was in attendance to watch both Moore and Fland.
They were among those recently named to the CHSAA “AA” All-League first team for the 2022-23 campaign.
Not too long ago, Moore had 31 points, 10 assists and five rebounds to lead Cardinal Hayes to an 85-69 victory over Archbishop Stepinac in the New York “AA” Archdiocesan tournament championship contest.
Recruiting analysts have said lately that Syracuse basketball coaches are putting on the full-court press for Boogie Fland, although he has a ton of high-major offers, with numerous blue-blood programs pursuing him.
My sense is it will prove an uphill battle for the Orange to prevail for Fland, and a key is for the ‘Cuse to get him on campus at some point in the future for an official visit.
In recently updated national rankings for the 2024 class from 247Sports, Fland checked in at No. 13 overall, No. 2 at combo guard and No. 2 in New York.
Rivals, meanwhile, put him at No. 9 across the country when that recruiting service recently updated its 2024 national ratings.
Moore, conversely, arrived in the top 70 overall in the recent updates from 247Sports and Rivals.com for the junior cycle.
