While the Syracuse Orange men’s teams are often the programs that, win or lose, seem to get most of the attention, they’re not the only ones worthy of such support. What if I told you that three of Syracuse University’s women’s teams are having a great year? What if I told you not to sleep on these teams especially?
Now I admit there are some differences between the men’s and women’s sports at times. I’m also not saying you are less of a fan or trying to force anyone into anything. What I am saying is don’t look now, but these three Syracuse Orange women’s programs deserve lots of love, too.
Let’s start with the one you’re least likely to know about: Syracuse women’s tennis. As of this writing, this team was currently off to its best start in over 20 years and was 8-0 on the 2023 season (the Orange was set to face #23 Miami at home on Sunday, Feb. 26, beginning at 11 am).
Head Coach Younes Limam (head coach since 2014), along with former Syracuse player and current assistant coach Maddie Kobelt and volunteer assistant coach Len Lopoo, are definitely off to a great start already.
There is a lot of season left obviously and the ACC tournament isn’t until mid-April but congratulations on a great start so far for the ‘Cuse tennis team. Go Orange!
Syracuse Orange women’s squads are really doing well these days.
And how about the job Head Coach Felisha Legette-Jack, who has returned to the program she played in and along with her staff, has done so far in her first season coaching the women’s basketball program? Coach came in bringing players she coached in Buffalo, a few other transfers from elsewhere and only one returning starter in Teisha Hyman (though a very talented starter).
This squad is projected by some experts to be an NCAA Tournament team, after finishing the regular season at 18-11 overall and 9-9 in conference play, within a solid Atlantic Coast Conference that will likely see multiple teams in the Big Dance season.

Don’t be shocked if this talented team, led by senior guard Dyaisha Fair, shocks some opponents in the upcoming tournaments, especially with such a talented frontcourt and a hard-working defense. Keep up fighting for that hard hat, ladies, and Go Orange.
And while it’s only 4 games into the season, Syracuse women’s lacrosse (4-0) has two top-5 wins already and started off the ACC portion of their schedule recently with a decisive 16-4 win at Pittsburgh.
After defeating the #2 ranked Maryland Terrapins and 4th ranked Northwestern Wildcats, the Orange is currently ranked #2 now, behind a very strong North Carolina team, the defending national champions.
Head coach and former Orange player Kayla Treanor has a loaded roster that if healthy could test that Tar Heels team when they play at Carolina on April 15 and hopefully Memorial Day weekend as well. How sweet would it be to add a women’s lacrosse national title to match the men’s soccer championship from late last year? I believe in you, ladies…Go Orange!
So while the men’s programs are the ones getting most of the sports talk and social media attention, let’s acknowledge that women are equal in the respect and admiration for their programs.
We’ve seen the field hockey team have success in the past, and women’s hockey, track and field, softball and volleyball have some success, but in their current respective seasons, these three teams – tennis, basketball and lacrosse – are definitely something to watch and root for as well.
