Syracuse Basketball: 4-star commit Elijah Moore balls out, scores NY title

Syracuse basketball 2024 four-star commit Elijah Moore continues to show why he should be seriously considered for five-star status when recruiting services next update their national rankings for the junior cycle.

The 6-foot-4 Moore, who verbally committed to the Orange in late January, was absolutely sensational on Saturday afternoon, leading his high-school squad to a championship in New York City.

Per a tweet from high-school hoops analyst Alex Karamanos, Elijah Moore tallied a ridiculous 31 points along with 10 assists and five rebounds.

On Saturday, Moore and his teammates at Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx, N.Y., defeated Archbishop Stepinac High School from White Plains, N.Y., by a final count of 85-69.

That game was the New York “AA” Archdiocesan tournament title contest, held at the Mount Saint Michael Academy in the Bronx. By the way, if you want to see a limited box score from this encounter, click here.

In the New York “AA” Archdiocesan playoffs, Cardinal Hayes was the top seed, while Archbishop Stepinac was the No. 2 seed.

For Cardinal Hayes, 2024 five-star guard Ian Jackson also produced 18 points. The 6-foot-5 Jackson, a former Orange recruiting target, verbally committed to North Carolina not too long ago.

On Saturday, 2024 five-star point guard Boogie Fland paced Archbishop Stepinac with 22 points, four assists and three boards. The 6-foot-3 Fland was offered a scholarship by Syracuse basketball coaches last month.

Not too long ago, Rivals.com national analyst Rob Cassidy said that the Orange has been recruiting Fland hard lately, and the ‘Cuse is trying to land an official visit from the top-flight player.

As we noted in another column, Fland, Jackson and Moore were recently named to the New York state Catholic High School Athletic Association (“CHSAA”) “AA” All-League first team for the 2022-23 campaign.

Elijah Moore in recent weeks has proven absolutely on fire for Cardinal Hayes, generating numerous games where he has been lighting up the scoreboard.

National recruiting analysts and scouts have long said that Moore is one of the top long-range shooters in the 2024 class. However, what he’s also shown in the 2022-23 stanza is that he facilitates well for others and is solid in the rebounding department.

Karamanos wrote in his tweet that on Saturday, Moore “continuously made tough shots” and “put his teammates in scoring position.”

Late last month, Elijah Moore verbally committed to Syracuse basketball over other finalists Alabama, Arkansas, Miami and Oklahoma State.

While multiple recruiting services rate him as a top-80 national prospect in the junior cycle, several experts have told me of late that Moore definitely can make a push for the top 50 in the 2024 class.

I’m not an analyst or a scout, but to me, the way Elijah Moore has performed in 2022-23, he merits five stars and a top-25 overall ranking in his cycle.
