Ever since the Syracuse basketball coaching staff offered a scholarship to 2024 four-star shooting guard Elijah Moore in April of 2022, I got the sense that the Orange was prioritizing the 6-foot-4 Moore in the junior cycle.

In many interviews throughout his recruiting process, Moore would note that he has forged a strong relationship with ‘Cuse coaches, including head coach Jim Boeheim.

He would take an unofficial visit to the Hill last August to play in the team’s annual Elite Camp. The top-80 national prospect went on an official visit to the Orange this past October.

And more recently, on January 24 when the ‘Cuse fell by four points at the JMA Wireless Dome to North Carolina, Moore was a courtside guest of businessman and top SU booster Adam Weitsman. As I first reported in recent days, Weitsman has verbally agreed to a major NIL deal with Moore, a top-20 shooting guard in the 2024 class out of New York City.

Syracuse basketball coaches did a great job prioritizing new 2024 commit Elijah Moore.

The relationships that Moore has built up with the Orange coaching staff and current players were critical factors in Moore giving a verbal commitment to the ‘Cuse on Saturday, Jan. 28. He chose Syracuse basketball over other finalists Alabama, Arkansas, Miami and Oklahoma State.

"In an interview with On3 national analyst Joe Tipton, Moore said in part, “It felt like home. From the coaches, to the fans, to the players, it all felt right. They helped me understand what they want to help me do and they have a plan for themselves and myself.”"

At one point last fall, Moore detailed to Rivals.com national analyst Travis Graf that “Coach Boeheim said he really liked my game and would do anything to get me there.”

Moore, a junior at Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx, N.Y., who suits up on the AAU circuit for the Bronx, N.Y.-based Wiz Kids in the Adidas league, is the first verbal commitment for Syracuse basketball in its 2024 cycle.

Moore also cited the Orange’s familial atmosphere as a big reason for his commitment to the ‘Cuse in an interview with 247Sports national analyst Dushawn London.

"“I chose Syracuse because it’s a family environment that felt like home when I got there,” Moore said to London. “The coaching staff, payers, and fans were amazing. The school itself is a good school so I feel like I made a good decision.”"

Moore is one of the top shooters in the country within the 2024 class. He’s a stellar first pledge for the Orange in the junior cycle.

I loved this quote from Moore to On3’s Tipton. It shows that Elijah really is pumped about his verbal commitment to Syracuse basketball and donning an Orange uniform down the line.

"“I would like to let the Cuse fans know I’m excited to be there and ready to win a lot of games,” Moore said. “I can’t wait to see everyone and put on for my school. We are going to make a difference at Cuse and bring back the culture of winning.”"
