Syracuse Basketball: 5-star PG target Boogie Fland having strong season
By Neil Adler
Going up against some elite competition during the 2022-23 high-school hoops season, new Syracuse basketball recruiting target Boogie Fland is putting up some great numbers as his New York team has won several impressive contests and had a few close setbacks to excellent foes.
The 6-foot-3 Fland, a 2024 five-star point guard, was offered a scholarship by the Orange coaching staff last week. In new national rankings from On3, he checks in at No. 5 around the country, No. 1 at point guard and No. 2 in New York within his class.
Boogie Fland is a junior at Archbishop Stepinac High School in White Plains, N.Y., and he runs on the AAU circuit with the Bronx, N.Y.-based PSA Cardinals in Nike’s EYBL league.
You can check out the latest statistics for Fland during the 2022-23 season via the MaxPreps Web site, which also provides results for Archbishop Stepinac in the current term.
When I wrote this column, per MaxPreps, Boogie Fland was averaging 16.6 points, 3.2 assists, 4.1 rebounds and 2.3 steals per encounter (editor’s note: I don’t believe that his season stats here included Archbishop Stepinac’s game this past Tuesday night, at least at the time of this writing).
Syracuse basketball faces stiff competition for 2024 five-star point guard Boogie Fland from New York.
As we noted in another recent column, Fland played 32 minutes and scored a team-high 14 points, to along with two rebounds, three assists, one block and three steals as Archbishop Stepinac fell to Chicago powerhouse Simeon, 52-39, at the recently held 2023 Spalding Hoophall Classic in Springfield, Mass.
So far in 2022-23, Archbishop Stepinac’s wins have included against quality teams such as Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx, N.Y., the Saint Frances Academy in Baltimore, the St. Raymond High School for Boys in the Bronx, N.Y., and Vashon High School in St. Louis.
Additionally, Archbishop Stepinac fell by two points each in battles versus two of the country’s premier squads, the Imhotep Institute Charter High School in Philadelphia and Centennial High School in Corona, Calif.
Looking ahead, Archbishop Stepinac has a contest this Friday against St. Raymond, on Sunday versus Christ the King Regional High School in Middle Village, N.Y., and on February 14 against Cardinal Hayes High School.
For some context, Syracuse basketball 2025 target Brandon Stores Jr. plays for St. Raymond, Orange 2025 four-star recruit Kiyan Anthony suits up for Christ the King, and the Cardinal Hayes roster includes 2024 four-star shooting guard Elijah Moore, who has the ‘Cuse in his top five.
As we reported not too long ago, businessman and top SU booster Adam Weitsman is discussing a combined multi-year, seven-figure name, image and likeness agreement with Boogie Fland and his family.
Besides Syracuse basketball, Fland’s offer sheet includes Alabama, North Carolina, Kentucky, Kansas, Villanova, UCLA, UConn, Oregon, Indiana, LSU, Auburn, Michigan, Illinois, Maryland, Miami, Pittsburgh, Providence, Seton Hall, St. John’s, TCU, Virginia Tech, Georgetown, Louisville, Florida and Oklahoma, among others.
We’ll continue to closely monitor the recruiting process of Boogie Fland, as well as how he and Archbishop Stepinac are faring in the 2022-23 campaign.
