Syracuse vs. Miami prediction and odds for Monday, January 16 (Orange poised to cover)
By Reed Wallach
Syracuse and Miami are set to do battle on Monday night in ACC action.
The Orange rallied at home to knock off Notre Dame, but now face a stiffer test in a high powered Miami offense. However, the Hurricanes had a grueling overtime matchup at North Carolina State over the weekend, will they be able to get up for this game with such a quick turnaround?
Let’s break down the odds for this conference matchup:
Syracuse vs. Miami odds, spread and total
Syracuse vs. Miami prediction and pick
Syracuse blew two double digit second half leads to Miami last season, losing both outright. Now, it hits the road after a come from behind win against Notre Dame and I like their chances of staying competitive in this one.
Miami hasn’t seen much zone defense this season, but struggled a ton against Georgia Tech earlier this season, losing 76-70 to the Yellow Jackets. While the patent 2-3 zone defense that Syracuse runs has become easy to decipher, its clear that coach Jim Larranaga’s group has struggled with the scheme. This is also a group that is not as protective of the ball this season, a sign that this miss veteran guard Charlie Moore.
After losing in overtime to North Carolina State on Saturday, there’s little to no prep time for the Hurricanes to get ready for this zone defense. A first half bet on the Orange is worth a look, but based on the way they have rallied in recent outings, I like the full game spread at a big number.
