Per a piece from Syracuse.com’s Brent Axe, a combined six players on the Syracuse Orange men’s and women’s lacrosse teams have been named preseason All-Americans ahead of the 2023 campaign, according to USA Lacrosse Magazine.

On the men’s side, making the honor-mention category is Will Mark, a senior goalkeeper who transferred in from Long Island University.

Final 2022 football rankings from media outlet
CBS Sports, a few days ago, released its final football rankings for the 2022 season, which culminated with Georgia notching its second straight College Football Playoff national championship.

After starting out 6-0, Syracuse Orange football dropped six of seven to wrap up 2022 at 7-6 overall. That included an eight-point loss to Minnesota at the Pinstripe Bowl in New York City late last month.

In its final 2022 national ratings, CBS Sports placed the ‘Cuse at No. 45 overall. Earlier in the season, Syracuse Orange football was inside the top 20, according to CBS Sports and both of the major top-25 polls.

Elite RB named an All-American
Last September, Syracuse Orange football coaches offered a scholarship to 2024 four-star running back Jordan Marshall.

In the recently completed 2022 campaign, the 5-foot-11, 195-pound Marshall rushed for 1,951 yards and 34 touchdowns, according to MaxPreps. He attends Archbishop Moeller High School in Cincinnati.

Recently, MaxPreps came out with its 2022 All-America teams for the junior class, and Marshall was named to the first squad.

Marshall holds more than two-dozen offers from a range of high-major programs. He is a top-200 national prospect and a top-10 running back within the 2024 cycle, per some recruiting services.

The Hoyas and the Wildcats – ouch
Perennial heavyweight Kentucky is struggling these days in basketball. A long-time rival of Syracuse Orange basketball, Georgetown, is downright awful. And the respective fan bases of the Wildcats and the Hoyas are really, really unhappy, according to articles from earlier this week by college basketball insider Adam Zagoria.

On a personal note, I actually root for Georgetown when it isn’t playing my alma mater, Syracuse University. I was born at Georgetown University Hospital and have lived most of my adult life in and around Washington, D.C.

Yes, I thoroughly enjoyed when the ‘Cuse stomped the Hoyas in mid-December on the Hill. But part of me feels bad for Georgetown head coach Patrick Ewing. He’s a legend in the sport of college basketball, and the Hoyas, a once-dominant squad, are simply terrible.

Hopefully, sooner rather than later, Georgetown will turn things around. But, naturally, I never want to see the Hoyas defeat my beloved Orange.
