Businessman and top SU booster Adam Weitsman isn’t just focused on inking name, image and likeness agreements with basketball and football recruits – he’s also working on NIL agreements with current Syracuse Orange student-athletes.
Weitsman has shared with me that he has signed NIL deals with eight existing ‘Cuse players in several sports. He is also in the process of finalizing NIL agreements with five additional SU student-athletes.
Adam Weitsman noted that these 13 deals, when all of them are completed, will total more than $1 million. He declined to provide details about individual agreements, including how much they are worth financially, and also for how long they run.
Much like with future high-school recruits whom he’s aiming to sign NIL deals with, as it pertains to his agreements with current SU players, these student-athletes will not be marketing Weitsman’s businesses.
Rather, as he has told me several times in recent months, Weitsman’s NIL opportunities will center on non-profit, civic and philanthropic efforts in the 315 and 607 area codes.
For those Syracuse Orange players who have signed their NIL deals with Weitsman, he said that their civic efforts and initiatives will start up soon.
Let’s look at which Syracuse Orange players have signed NIL deals with Adam Weitsman.
Six of the eight signed NIL agreements are with Syracuse basketball players on the men’s side. They are senior shooting guard Joe Girard III, senior guard Symir Torrence, sophomore forward Benny Williams, freshman point guard Judah Mintz, redshirt junior forward John Bol Ajak, and freshman big man Peter Carey.
Carey, by the way, is out for the rest of the 2022-23 season after recently undergoing a surgical procedure on his right knee, according to head coach Jim Boeheim, who said that the 6-foot-11 center will take a medical redshirt this year.
Weitsman has officially signed a NIL deal with Syracuse women’s basketball senior guard Dyaisha Fair, too. And Weitsman’s eighth completed NIL agreement is with Syracuse football defensive back Alijah Clark.
Regarding the five NIL deals that are in the process of being completed, Adam Weitsman declined to identify these SU players, but he did say they come from the Syracuse football and Orange men’s basketball programs.
Additionally, Weitsman is working on other NIL deals with female student-athletes, but he declined to provide specifics.
As Adam Weitsman partners with current SU student-athletes, he’s also working to get NIL agreements done with high-school recruits in basketball and football. Weitsman has stressed to me that he doesn’t discuss Syracuse Orange sports teams or any other colleges/universities with high-school players and their families.
That’s because Weitsman’s NIL opportunities can’t be used as a form of inducement (“pay-for-play”) for a high-school recruit to commit to a specific college or university.
Late last month, Weitsman offered a three-year, seven-figure NIL deal to 2024 five-star point guard Elliot Cadeau, who had Syracuse basketball in his top six. Cadeau, however, verbally committed to North Carolina.
A few days ago, Weitsman told me that his No. 1 target for NIL opportunities in the 2024 class is four-star shooting guard Elijah Moore from New York City, who recently included the Orange in his top five.
I’ll certainly be talking to Adam Weitsman on a consistent basis to hear more about future NIL deals that he may be working on with current SU players as well as high-school prospects.
