Syracuse football picks up analyst prediction for Notre Dame DB transfer
By Neil Adler
A national recruiting analyst has logged a prediction in the direction of Syracuse football for a defensive-back transfer who has suited up for Notre Dame in his freshman season but hasn’t seen any action for the Fighting Irish.
Earlier this month, Notre Dame freshman cornerback Jayden Bellamy said via Twitter that he would enter the NCAA’s transfer portal. The 5-foot-11, 175-pound Bellamy hails from North Haledon, N.J., and attended Bergen Catholic High School in Oradell, N.J., as a consensus three-star prospect in the 2022 class.
We should point out that earlier this week, the Orange landed a commitment from Nebraska freshman defensive back Jaeden Gould. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Gould, out of Somerset, N.J., was a four-star player in the 2022 cycle and also attended Bergen Catholic.
On Wednesday, 247Sports national analyst Brian Dohn forecast that Bellamy will pick the ‘Cuse. Earlier this month, Rutgers received two projections for Bellamy on the 247Sports Web site.
When I checked on Thursday morning, I didn’t see any additional predictions for Bellamy on either Rivals.com or the On3 Web site.
Syracuse football appears to be a serious contender for Notre Dame DB transfer Jayden Bellamy.
Looking ahead to the 2023 campaign, there should be playing time up for grabs at cornerback at the ‘Cuse. Earlier this week, starting cornerback Duce Chestnut said he would enter the transfer portal.
And, presumably, the Orange’s other starting cornerback, Garrett Williams, is likely headed to the 2023 NFL Draft. Williams, unfortunately, suffered a season-ending injury earlier in the 2022 term.
Syracuse football is presently 7-5 and will play Big Ten Conference squad Minnesota in the Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium in New York City at the end of December.
Getting back to Bellamy, all of the primary recruiting services rated him a three-star prospect in the 2022 class.
Throughout his recruiting process, he secured more than 20 offers from a range of high-major programs, including Clemson, Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Penn State, LSU, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Tennessee, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wisconsin, West Virginia, Boston College, Duke and Louisville, among others.
Per 247Sports, Syracuse football offered a scholarship to Bellamy in February of 2021.
In the 2022 cycle, the industry-generated 247Sports Composite placed him at No. 452 overall, No. 43 at cornerback and No. 6 in New Jersey.
The industry-generated On3 Consensus, meanwhile, had Bellamy at No. 456 nationally, No. 47 at safety and No. 4 in New Jersey.
If Dohn’s projection holds true and the Orange gets a commitment from Bellamy, this would prove a solid pick-up for Syracuse football.
