Syracuse Football: 5-star quarterback with Orange offer discloses his top 8
By Neil Adler
Elite 2024 quarterback Michael Van Buren from Baltimore, who is rated five stars by ESPN and holds a Syracuse football scholarship offer, has released his top eight, according to numerous media reports.
An article from Rivals.com national analyst Adam Friedman does note that Van Buren is leaving his recruitment open, but at least for now anyway, his top eight consists of Penn State, Cincinnati, Miami, Virginia Tech, Wisconsin, Maryland, Oregon and Oklahoma.
The 6-foot, 185-pound pro-style quarterback received an offer from the Orange coaching staff in late April of this year. Candidly, I’m not surprised that the ‘Cuse didn’t make Van Buren’s top eight.
Van Buren is a junior at the powerhouse Saint Frances Academy in Baltimore. If you’d like to see his statistics for the 2022 season, click here. In the most recent national rankings from MaxPreps, the Saint Frances Academy checked in at No. 13.
Syracuse football appears out of the running for 2024 five-star QB Michael Van Buren.
His bio on Rivals.com says that Van Buren, to date, has picked up more than 20 offers from a range of high-major programs. The bevy of recruiting services rates him as a four-star player in the 2024 cycle.
ESPN, at this juncture, is the most bullish on Van Buren, placing him as five stars, No. 10 across the country, and No. 2 at his position in the junior class.
The industry-generated 247Sports Composite rates him at No. 103 overall and No. 8 at quarterback. The industry-generated On3 Consensus has him at No. 67 nationally and No. 7 at his position.
Rivals.com, meanwhile, situates Van Buren at No. 59 nationwide in the 2024 class, as well as No. 6 at quarterback.
Per the 247Sports Web site, Syracuse football coaches have offered scholarships to several other high-school quarterbacks in the 2024 recruiting cycle.
Additionally, as we noted in a column a few days ago, the Orange has been showing interest in talented yet underrated 2024 quarterback Jacob Zamot.
The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Zamot, a dual-threat quarterback, was instrumental last weekend in his team, Millville High School in Millville, N.J., claiming the first-ever New Jersey Group 4 state championship.
Millville finished up the 2022 stanza at 12-2 overall and was among the top high-school squads in New Jersey. As a junior this term, Zamot threw for 3,180 yards, completed about 60 percent of his passes, tallied 27 passing touchdowns and allowed only five interceptions, per MaxPreps.
