Syracuse basketball vs. Richmond odds, prediction and how to watch
By Neil Adler
Syracuse basketball got back into the win column over the weekend, and now the Orange will invade New York City on Tuesday night to collide with an old-time nemesis as part of the 2022 Empire Classic.
This past Saturday in the early evening on the Hill, the ‘Cuse looked pretty strong in defeating Colonial Athletic Association team Northeastern, 76-48. That victory came a few days after the Orange got smoked for the second straight year by Patriot League member Colgate at the Dome.
In the conquest of Northeastern, senior guard Joe Girard III, senior center Jesse Edwards and freshman point guard Judah Mintz were fabulous, while Syracuse basketball (2-1) received solid contributions from sophomore forward Benny Williams, freshman forward Maliq Brown, freshman guard/wing Quadir Copeland and freshman guard/wing Justin Taylor.
The Spiders (2-2), a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference, have lost two in a row by a combined five points. They fell to Charleston by two points in overtime and then to Wichita State, most recently, by three points. So far in the young 2022-23 season, Richmond has victories over VMI and Northern Iowa.
Syracuse basketball vs. Richmond odds
When I published this column, actionnetwork.com had the Orange as a 3.5-point betting favorite. The over/under was set at 139.5 points.
Syracuse basketball vs. Richmond prediction
All-time, the Orange is 3-1 against the Spiders. Their most recent encounter occurred in November of 2008, when the ‘Cuse scored a home defeat of Richmond, 76-71. However, we’ll all never forget what the Spiders did to Syracuse basketball in mid-March of 1991.
Suiting up in a first-round NCAA Tournament game in College Park, Md., Richmond became the first No. 15 seed to upset a No. 2 seed, as the Spiders stunned the Orange, 73-69.
Neither Richmond nor the ‘Cuse has been overly dominating to date in 2022-23. I envision a closely fought affair. Syracuse basketball should have a sea of Orange cheering the team on in NYC, although the ‘Cuse hasn’t always fared well in the Big Apple in recent years.
That being said, I liked the way that the Orange played versus Northeastern, and I’ll take Syracuse basketball to defeat Richmond.
Injuries, how to watch, live stream, next game
On the injury front, I’m not aware of any significant injuries to note as the Orange aims for its third victory of the 2022-23 stanza. Certainly, we’ll stay on top of this topic throughout the current term.
