Syracuse football travels to Wake Forest this Saturday evening for an Atlantic Coast Conference showdown where both squads are mired in relatively long losing streaks.

The Orange (6-4, 3-3), after getting smoked by top-25 Florida State over the weekend during senior day on the Hill, by a final count of 38-3, has fallen four straight times.

The Demon Deacons (6-4, 2-4), meanwhile, have lost three games in a row. Wake Forest’s most recent setback, this past Saturday night, was a two-point loss at home to red-hot North Carolina (the Tar Heels will face Clemson in the ACC championship contest early next month).

Prior to a bowl game, Syracuse football squares off with the Demon Deacons and then will head to long-time rival Boston College. The Orange could certainly use a victory in one or both of these ACC affairs to culminate the 2022 regular season.

Best Syracuse football bets week 12

Here’s what I like from a betting perspective as the Orange plays at Wake Forest on Saturday, Nov. 19. The ACC groups will commence their meeting at 8 pm from Truist Field in Winston-Salem, N.C., with television coverage on the ACC Network.

Take Wake Forest to cover the spread
At the time of this writing, WynnBET had anointed the Demon Deacons as a 10.0-point betting favorite versus the Orange. Ordinarily, I’d say that is a fairly large spread, however, the ‘Cuse is really struggling these days, and Wake Forest is competing on its own turf.

Plus, the Demon Deacons have the ability to score in droves. Wake Forest, per statistics from the ACC’s Web site and ESPN, is averaging 36.6 points per game, which is No. 2 in the conference.

Conversely, in the Orange’s last two games, the aforementioned loss to FSU and a 19-9 road setback to Pittsburgh, the ‘Cuse hasn’t scored a single touchdown. With the Mob defense a bit banged up, I simply don’t envision Syracuse football staying with the Demon Deacons.

Go with the under
WynnBET, when I wrote this article, had set the over/under at 56.0 points. As I previously noted, Wake Forest averages nearly 37 points per contest. The Orange, presently, produces 27.3 points per affair, which is No. 8 in the ACC.

On defense, the Demon Deacons allow 28.2 points per meeting, which is No. 11 in the league. Syracuse football is giving up 20.4 points a game, good for No. 3 in the ACC.

Considering that Wake Forest isn’t all that special on defense, but the Demon Deacons have a prolific offense, one might be inclined to take the over here. And that’s totally reasonable.

However, I feel like the Syracuse football offense just can’t get anything going these days, so even against a sub-par Wake Forest defense, I don’t foresee the ‘Cuse putting up a lot of points. Hence, I like the under.

Pick Wake Forest on the moneyline
WynnBET, at the time of this writing, had the moneyline at -375 for the Demon Deacons and +285 for Syracuse football. This is a straight-up bet, with no spread involved, so it boils down to which team you think is going to come out on top.

For Wake Forest, a $375 bet would net you $100 (or some denomination of that). For the Orange, a $100 bet would win you $285. I think that the Demon Deacons are going to take care of business versus Syracuse football at home, so I’ll favor Wake Forest on the moneyline.

In their all-time series together, the Orange has a 6-5 edge over Wake Forest. However, the Demon Deacons have won the last two meetings, including a heartbreaking 40-37 overtime triumph for Wake Forest over the Orange on the Hill during the 2021 stanza.

Neither of these ACC units is faring well lately, but I sadly don’t have a lot of confidence in Syracuse football to win games at this juncture in the 2022 season.
