Not too long ago, the son of Syracuse basketball legend Carmelo Anthony, who is a sophomore in high school and has interest from the Orange, put up some massive numbers in a game against a professional squad.

Kiyan Anthony, a 6-foot-3 shooting guard in the 2025 class, recently entered the national rankings for his cycle as a four-star, top-65 player.

Toward the end of October, according to various posts on social media, Anthony suited up for the New York City-based AAU team Queens Defenders, which headed down to Atlanta to play several games against squads that are part of the Atlanta-based professional basketball league Overtime Elite.

Per tweets that I saw on Anthony’s page, in a loss by Queens Defenders to Overtime Elite unit YNG Dreamerz, he compiled 20 points, five rebounds and three steals. That’s darn good for a high-school sophomore going up against a professional squad.

Syracuse basketball is showing interest in Carmelo Anthony’s son, a 4-star NYC guard.

When 247Sports recently published its inaugural set of 2025 national ratings, Kiyan Anthony arrived at No. 62 overall, No. 14 at shooting guard and No. 3 in New York.

According to recruiting services and his Twitter account, Anthony’s scholarship offer sheet includes Memphis, Bryant, George Mason and Manhattan.

Illinois is reportedly displaying interest in Anthony. He told 247Sports in a recent interview that others with interest in him include Syracuse basketball, Penn State, St. John’s, Morgan State and others.

I would be so stoked if the Orange ends up offering a scholarship to Anthony, and I’m fairly optimistic that he’s likely to get an offer from the ‘Cuse at some point.

That being said, college coaches can’t initiate direct contact with 2025 prospects until mid-June of 2023, so there is plenty of time for Anthony’s recruitment to continue heating up.

He is a sophomore at the famed Christ the King Regional High School in Middle Village, N.Y. As the 2022-23 season is getting underway for high schools and prep schools around the country, experts are projecting that Christ the King will contend for a top-25 national ranking this coming campaign, and Anthony should prove a key piece of the Royals’ roster.

According to this story, one fun match-up to monitor that involves Anthony will take place on December 12. Christ the King will travel to the Sierra Canyon School in Chatsworth, Calif.

One of the senior stand-outs for the Sierra Canyon School is 2023 four-star guard Bronny James, who is the son of NBA superstar LeBron James. LeBron and Carmelo are dear friends, and I imagine they’ll both be in attendance for this juicy affair.

But for me, I’m most interested to see how Kiyan Anthony and an excellent Christ the King group fares on the road versus another really, really good high-school squad in the Sierra Canyon School.
