Syracuse football will look to get back into the win column when the Orange hosts Notre Dame this coming Saturday afternoon on the Hill.

The ‘Cuse (6-1), currently ranked No. 16 in both major top-25 polls, played its heart out last weekend at No. 5 Clemson. The Tigers have a long winning streak going in Death Valley, and Syracuse football nearly ended that success.

The Orange held a 21-10 lead heading into the fourth quarter versus Clemson, but the Syracuse football offense was stifled after halftime, and the Tigers (8-0) outscored the ‘Cuse, 17-0, in the final 15 minutes to come away with a 27-21 triumph.

That heartbreaking setback dropped Syracuse football from the ranks of the unbeaten in college football, but to me, the Orange showed that it can hang with the giants in college football given the team’s showing at Clemson.

Now Syracuse football has to move past that outcome and get ready for the Fighting Irish. Notre Dame, prior to the 2022 term starting, found itself inside the top 10 of the preseason top-25 polls, but the Fighting Irish has struggled to date this fall.

Under first-year head coach Marcus Freeman, who replaced current LSU boss Brian Kelly, Notre Dame (an independent in football) sits at just 4-3 overall after defeating UNLV at home this past Saturday.

When I penned this column, WynnBET had installed the Orange as a 3.0-point favorite in its battle with the Fighting Irish. At the time of this writing, the over/under was set at 47.0 points.

Syracuse football vs. Notre Dame prediction week 9

I hated picking Clemson over the Orange a week ago. It does me little solace to say that I was right for a change in these sorts of projections, because Syracuse football had a golden opportunity to stun the Tigers and move into the top 10 of the polls.

However, that’s all in the rear-view mirror. While Notre Dame hasn’t looked all that good so far in the 2022 season, this is still a big-time program that is capable of producing impressive wins. Do I think that Syracuse football is the “better” squad here? I do.

Do I think that the Fighting Irish can spring the upset on the road? Without question. That being said, let’s hope I’m correct for a second consecutive week, because I’m going with the Orange to conquer Notre Dame.

Injuries, how to watch, live stream, next game
On the injury front, fullback/tight end Chris Elmore, linebacker Stefon Thompson, wide receiver Isaiah Jones, defensive lineman Terry Lockett and defensive lineman Denis Jaquez Jr. are all out for the remainder of the 2022 stanza.

Star cornerback Garrett Williams didn’t suit up against Clemson, and several other Orange players got banged up in the team’s loss to the Tigers. We’ll continue to monitor the injury department, as the ‘Cuse, particularly on defense, has seen its depth get thoroughly tested lately.

Syracuse football will kick off with Notre Dame from the JMA Wireless Dome beginning at noon on Saturday, Oct. 29. ABC will provide television coverage, and SU Athletics is describing this intriguing affair as the “Orange Out.”

For Orange and Fighting Irish fans who want to stream this game, you can check it out on fuboTV.

After its non-conference clash versus Notre Dame, the ‘Cuse will hit the road to play at long-time rival Pittsburgh on Saturday, Nov. 5. This Atlantic Coast Conference encounter is scheduled to commence at 3:30 pm, with the ACC Network serving as the TV provider.

Game odds refresh periodically and are subject to change.
