Jaelyne Matthews, a coveted four-star offensive tackle in the 2025 class who holds a Syracuse football offer, has a long way to go in his recruiting process.

But at least for now, it appears that the Orange has made a solid impression on the 6-foot-5, 290-pound Matthews, who is a top-100 prospect in his cycle according to 247Sports.

Matthews recently began his sophomore season at Toms River High School North in Toms River, N.J., after earning All-America honors as a freshman for his play last fall in the 2021 term.

He has, to date, landed at least 16 scholarship offers from a range of high-major programs. Syracuse football coaches offered Matthews in late April, and he actually visited the Orange campus earlier that month.

Syracuse football is in the mix for talented four-star OL Jaelyne Matthews.

In a recent interview with 247Sports national analyst Brian Dohn, Matthews discussed his recruitment and some of his suitors, including the ‘Cuse.

Regarding Syracuse University and the Orange football program, Matthews said, “It’s a good school. I like it a lot. I like the coaches, the fan base, the facilities.”

Besides Syracuse football, according to recruiting services and Matthews’ Twitter page, his offer sheet includes defending national champion Georgia, Ohio State, Penn State, Rutgers, Miami, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Cincinnati, Louisville, Boston College, Maryland, West Virginia, Vanderbilt, UConn and Nebraska.

To reiterate, it’s extremely early in Matthews’ recruiting process, and I would imagine that many, many more impressive offers will arrive for him in the near future.

Both 247Sports and On3 rate him as four stars. Over at 247Sports, Matthews is ranked No. 87 across the country, No. 6 at offensive tackle and No. 3 in New Jersey.

For his performance in 2021, Stephen Spiewak of MaxPreps included Matthews on his freshman All-America second team a stanza ago. Spiewak wrote that Matthews was an “instant difference maker” for Toms River High School North in his debut campaign.

At the time that I penned this column, it looked like Syracuse football had offered one other offensive tackle in the 2025 class. That prospect is Rowan Byrne.

On the 247Sports Web site, he is listed as 6-foot-5 and 275 pounds. Byrne, a sophomore at the Iona Preparatory School in New Rochelle, N.Y., received a scholarship offer from the ‘Cuse in early June of this year.

According to 247Sports and other recruiting services, Byrne’s offer sheet includes Rutgers, Boston College, Pittsburgh and UConn.
