Syracuse Basketball: 4-star, 5-star recruits to battle in Under Armour event
By Neil Adler
Multiple Syracuse basketball four-star and five-star recruiting targets in the 2023 and 2024 classes are expected to suit up in an Under Armour all-star event, according to a media report.
Jordan Divens, the national basketball editor for MaxPreps, recently detailed in a piece those high-school prospects who got selected to the Under Armour Next Elite 24, which will take place on August 12 in Chicago.
Divens reports that the inaugural girls’ game will tip off at 5 pm, while the boys’ contest is slated to begin at 7 pm. ESPNU will stream both encounters.
In looking over the boys’ roster for this year’s Under Armour Next Elite 24, I’m counting at least a half-dozen players who were selected and hold a scholarship offer from the Orange.
Syracuse basketball recruits will play in an upcoming all-star showcase.
From the 2023 cycle, two of the expected participants in the Under Armour Next Elite 24 are four-star point guard Elmarko Jackson and four-star big man Joseph Estrella.
Both the 6-foot-4 Jackson and the 6-foot-11 Estrella are priority targets for the ‘Cuse in the rising-senior cycle. Jackson is expected to trim his list soon, while Estrella plans to announce his college choice on September 2.
In a recent piece, high-school hoops analyst and scout Samad Hines said that Jackson and Estrella were among his biggest stock-risers in July on the AAU circuit.
Jackson has competed for the Delaware-based WE R1 in the Under Armour Association league and will be a senior at the South Kent School in South Kent, Conn.
Estrella, meanwhile, was fabulous in recent months for the New England-based Middlesex Magic in the Under Armour Association league and will spend his senior season at the Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, N.H.
Turning to the 2024 class, those with Syracuse basketball offers who were named to the Under Armour Next Elite 24 include five-star point guard Elliot Cadeau, five-star guard Ian Jackson, five-star wing Vyctorius Miller and five-star big man Derik Queen.
The 6-foot-1 Cadeau, the No. 1 point guard in 2024 per some recruiting services, was offered by the Orange last November and is a rising junior at the Link Academy in Branson, Mo.
Syracuse basketball offered the 6-foot-6 Jackson in April. He recently jumped to No. 1 nationally in his cycle, per Rivals.com. Jackson is a stand-out for Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx, N.Y.
Recruiting services say that the ‘Cuse has offered the 6-foot-5 Miller, although it’s not entirely clear to me when that offer got doled out. He will suit up during the 2022-23 stanza for the powerhouse AZ Compass Prep School in Chandler, Ariz.
Finally, the Orange offered a scholarship to the 6-foot-9 Queen this past October. He competes for the juggernaut Montverde Academy in Montverde, Fla., which captured the 2022 GEICO Nationals in the spring.
