Syracuse Basketball: 5-star targets will suit up in national super conference

In the upcoming 2022-23 high-school hoops season, multiple Syracuse basketball recruiting targets will compete in arguably the country’s premier super league.

Per a recent article from Jordan Divens of MaxPreps, the National Interscholastic Basketball Conference (“NIBC”) has released its full 60-game schedule for the 2022-23 stanza.

The NIBC, which debuted a term ago, has grown to 10 members that consist of elite prep-school squads as well as independent basketball academies that generally don’t compete for state-affiliated championships in high-school hoops.

At eight members in 2021-22, the NIBC earlier this year added the AZ Compass Prep School in Chandler, Ariz., as well as Long Island Lutheran High School in Brookville, N.Y.

Let’s review some Syracuse basketball recruits who will play in the NIBC.

A new player for the AZ Compass Prep School in 2022-23 will be 2024 five-star wing Vyctorius Miller, who is in contention for the No. 1 national ranking in the rising-junior cycle.

As we noted this past spring, the 6-foot-5 Miller has transferred from Crean Lutheran High School to the AZ Compass Prep School. The Dragons, in 2021-22, were among the best high-school groups nationwide, participating in the 2022 GEICO Nationals.

We’ve documented how Syracuse basketball coaches were reportedly showing interest in Miller, and his bio on the On3 Web site says that the Orange has offered a scholarship to him.

Fast-rising 2024 small forward Jadyn Harris reportedly heard from the Orange coaching staff once the contact period in this class opened up on June 15, according to a recent tweet from national analyst Jake Weingarten.

The 6-foot-6 Harris has earned stellar reviews from experts for his recent performances on the AAU circuit for the Baltimore-based Team Thrill in the Under Armour Association league.

In June, Harris said via Twitter that he was transferring from Bishop O’Connell High School in Arlington, Va., to Long Island Lutheran High School.

Without question, the country’s No. 1 high-school team in recent years has proven the powerhouse Montverde Academy in Montverde, Fla., which captured the 2022 GEICO Nationals and is a NIBC member.

Baltimore big man Derik Queen, a 2024 five-star prospect, played limited minutes as a sophomore on a loaded Montverde Academy squad this past season.

The 6-foot-9 power forward is likely to be a signature guy for the Montverde Academy in 2022-23, and Queen landed a scholarship offer from the ‘Cuse last October.

Queen, by the way, recently led Team Thrill to the UAA title in the main division of this grassroots basketball league. Team Thrill squeaked by the Los Angeles-based West Coast Elite in the UAA final, 51-49.

Also within the Montverde Academy line-up in 2022-23 will be 2024 four-star point guard Curtis Givens III, who is a top-60 player across the country, according to multiple recruiting services.

Several recruiting Web sites have suggested that the ‘Cuse may have interest in the 6-foot-3 Givens. Not too long ago, word broke that he was transferring from the Memphis University School in Memphis, Tenn., to the Montverde Academy.
