The launch of a Heisman Trophy campaign by SU Athletics for Syracuse football star running back Sean Tucker is both necessary and welcomed.
The Orange’s athletics department, via cuse.com, has announced the release of a Heisman Trophy campaign slogan and microsite for Tucker, who in 2021 broke the team’s single-season rushing record by accumulating nearly 1,500 yards on the ground.
Naturally, if Tucker wants to make a serious run at the Heisman Trophy and other national awards in the upcoming campaign, the ‘Cuse is going to have to sport a strong record and earn a spot in a post-season bowl game.
But Syracuse football head coach Dino Babers recently opined that he thinks Tucker will prove even better in 2022 than he did a stanza ago, which for me is going to be really difficult to achieve.
Sean Tucker, though, is garnering a lot of pre-season All-America accolades ahead of the 2022 term. Undeniably, this next season could amount to another special one for the native of Owings Mills, Md.
Syracuse football fans should feel pleased with the Heisman campaign for Sean Tucker.
A year ago, we all thoroughly enjoyed the tweets that Tucker would put out after he fared well in 2021 contests. Tucker often saying that he was “pleased with his performance” has been transformed into a Heisman Trophy campaign slogan, #PL34SED, which obviously incorporates his jersey number, 34.
As a quick aside, as someone who is in advertising and marketing myself, I like this concept. That being said, #PL34SED to me is also a little difficult to read upon first glance, but that’s splitting hairs.
Beyond this hashtag for use on social media and elsewhere, SU Athletics has launched a microsite, Cuse.com/PL34SED, as part of its Heisman Trophy campaign for Tucker.
SU Athletics says that it will update the microsite throughout the 2022 stanza. At present, it includes videos and highlights, awards and honors, information on purchasing merchandise, a link to buy Syracuse football tickets (shocking), Tucker’s bio, featured stories and more.
I’m really encouraged that SU Athletics is being proactive here in putting out a campaign for Tucker as it pertains to the Heisman Trophy.
He may end up proving a long shot for this prestigious honor, but then again, if his head coach is right and Tucker has another stellar season, the third-year running back could be in the Heisman Trophy conversation.
We noted in a column earlier this week that several national pundits are providing a bit of optimism on the Orange’s 2022 outlook, despite the team being projected to face a daunting schedule.
If the ‘Cuse can somehow manage a 7-5 or even an 8-4 record this fall, and Tucker’s numbers are similar to 2021, he absolutely should get deemed by experts as a serious Heisman Trophy contender.
That, my friends, would be extremely pleasing to Sean Tucker, Syracuse football and the Orange fan base.
