Syracuse basketball coaches have interest in Caleb Williams, an underrated wing in the rising-junior class, according to his bio on the 247Sports Web site.

While the Orange has doled out scholarship offers to a variety of players in the 2024 cycle, I don’t believe at this juncture the ‘Cuse has offered the 6-foot-7 Williams, who is a fast-rising guard/small forward out of the Sidwell Friends School in Washington, D.C.

Williams certainly made his mark during his sophomore season at the Sidwell Friends School. In early March, during the DC State Athletic Association title game, Williams scored right before the buzzer as the Sidwell Friends School squeaked by rival Woodrow Wilson High School, 46-45.

According to his school’s Web site, this past spring the Sidwell Friends School captured its first state championship dating back to 2019.

Syracuse basketball has reported interest in a stock-rising D.C. guard.

For the moment, I’m not seeing Caleb Williams in the 2024 national rankings from the primary recruiting services, but that certainly could change down the line.

In grassroots basketball, Williams suits up in Nike’s EYBL league for the Washington-based Team Takeover, which has numerous recent connections to Syracuse basketball.

Another player on the Team Takeover roster is 2024 five-star power forward Donnie Freeman, who was offered by the Orange nearly a year ago and has said that he would like to visit the Hill in the future.

The 6-foot-9 Freeman was excellent as a sophomore in the 2021-22 term, getting named to the All-Washington Catholic Athletic Conference second team for his play at St. John’s College High School in D.C.

Reverting back to Williams, media reports and his Twitter page suggest that Williams has taken recent visits to both Maryland and Virginia.

His offer list has significantly expanded since mid-June, when college coaches could begin making direct contact with 2024 high-school prospects.

According to recruiting services, Williams holds offers from squads such as Bryant, Harvard, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Ole Miss, Penn State, VCU, Virginia Tech, Fordham, South Florida, George Washington, George Mason and Penn.

His bio on the 247Sports Web site says that Williams is receiving interest from several other groups, including Syracuse basketball, Virginia, UMBC and La Salle.

Last month, Williams garnered praise from 247Sports national analyst Dushawn London for his performance at a showcase event called DC Live.

At that time, London wrote in part that “Williams’ length, good size, frame, willingness to defend and fluidity for his size has gotten him onto the radar of various schools this month.”

We’ll of course continue to monitor the recruiting process of Caleb Williams moving forward.
