At the end of April, Syracuse football coaches threw their hat into the ring when they offered a scholarship to one of the best pro-style quarterbacks in the 2024 class.

That consensus four-star prospect, Michael Van Buren from Baltimore, recently participated in the Rivals Camp Series in Coatesville, Pa., near Philadelphia.

For his performance at this event, Rivals.com national recruiting analyst Adam Friedman had some encouraging things to say about the 6-foot, 180-pound Van Buren, who is a sophomore at the Saint Frances Academy in Baltimore.

Syracuse football 4-star QB target Michael Van Buren is a precision passer, an expert says.

Friedman writes that Van Buren is one of the “biggest names in the 2024 class on the East Coast and it was obvious why” at the Rivals Camp Series.

"The analyst says that while Van Buren “isn’t overly impressive physically … he throws the ball with power and accuracy all over the field. He was really on point on Sunday and fit the ball into some very tight coverage.”"

Per a review of the main recruiting Web sites, Van Buren presently holds around 15 offers. Other Atlantic Coast Conference groups in pursuit of him include Virginia Tech, Boston College, Pittsburgh, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech and Louisville.

Nationally, his offer sheet features big-time teams such as Alabama, Michigan and Penn State, as well as Ole Miss, Rutgers, West Virginia, Maryland, Arizona and Memphis.

Multiple recruiting Web sites rank Van Buren as a top-150 national prospect in 2024, as well as a top-15 quarterback and a top-five player in Maryland.

At the time that penned this column, he was placed at No. 126 overall, No. 10 at quarterback and No. 3 in Maryland, according to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite.

"Friedman of Rivals.com summed it up this way about the Syracuse football recruit. “Mechanically, Van Buren is very sound and he seems to have the skill set to play in almost any environment.”"

In the 2025 class, not too long ago, Orange coaches offered quarterback Stone Saunders with Bishop McDevitt High School in Harrisburg, Pa.

The 6-foot-2 Saunders was magnificent in his first season for Bishop McDevitt, landing a spot on the freshman All-America second squad for his play in the 2021 stanza, according to MaxPreps.

Meanwhile, in the 2023 cycle, Syracuse football has a commitment from three-star, dual-threat quarterback LaNorris Sellers.

The 6-foot-2 Sellers, a junior at South Florence High School in Florence, S.C., is rated as a top-15 dual-threat QB in his class by several recruiting Web sites.
