Syracuse basketball 5-star recruits are big stock-risers in AAU live periods
By Neil Adler
Syracuse basketball four-star and five-star recruiting targets across the three shoe-sponsored AAU circuits were among some of the best performers during the live periods when college coaches could watch high-school prospects in person last month.
On3 national recruiting analyst Jamie Shaw was on hand for numerous contests in both the Adidas and Under Armour leagues, and the expert recently published his superlatives on the best performers in these NCAA live periods in April.
Those stand-outs, by the way, include multiple players who hold Syracuse basketball offers, as well as two prospects who I believe are high-priority recruiting targets for the Orange.
Let’s review Syracuse basketball prospects who crushed it in the live periods.
One guy that Shaw doled out his best performance award to is 2023 five-star shooting guard/small forward Elijah Fisher, who was offered by the ‘Cuse in July of 2020.
The 6-foot-7 Fisher plays for the Crestwood Preparatory College in Toronto, Ontario, and with Elite 6 in the Adidas league. As we noted in a column the other day, a couple of recruiting experts have logged predictions for Fisher in the direction of Texas Tech on the 247Sports Web site and Rivals.com.
In Shaw’s paint-touch point guard category, he bestowed this honor to 2023 four-star Elmarko Jackson, who was offered by the Orange last month and has emerged as a priority target for the ‘Cuse coaching staff in this cycle.
The 6-foot-4 Jackson is out of WE R1 on the Under Armour circuit as well as the Academy of the New Church in Bryn Athyn, Pa. He has said more than once of late that Syracuse basketball is recruiting him hard, and that he is eyeing an official visit to the Hill at some point in the future.
In the stock-riser department, and this is no surprise, as Shaw has included 2023 big man Joseph Estrella here. One of the hottest prospects in his class, the 6-foot-11 power forward/center will be entering the national ratings soon, and his offer list is blowing up.
Estrella, with the New England-based Middlesex Magic in the Under Armour league as well as the Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, N.H., received a ‘Cuse offer last August at the team’s annual Elite Camp. I believe that Estrella is another priority target for the Orange in the 2023 cycle.
Last but not least, Shaw gave out his award for the best 2024 player in the live periods to five-star guard Ian Jackson, who is a significant contender for the No. 1 national ranking in his class.
The 6-foot-6 Jackson is out of Cardinal Hayes High School and the Wiz Kids in the Adidas league, with both of these teams located in the Bronx, N.Y.
The national sophomore of the year for the 2021-22 season according to MaxPreps, Jackson was offered by Syracuse basketball about a month ago.
A bunch of blue-blood programs and other recruiting heavyweights in college basketball have recently started to pursue Jackson.
