It’s not too early to start talking about the Syracuse basketball 2022-23 season, right?

The recently concluded campaign was a bummer for the Orange and its fan base, as the ‘Cuse finished 16-17 overall to give head coach Jim Boeheim his first losing stanza in 46 years as the team’s boss.

The roster, ahead of 2022-23, is going to look a whole lot different, with numerous guys leaving, a six-member recruiting class coming in, and perhaps more developments in the future via the transfer portal.

But we can already begin to take a look at what the Orange’s non-conference schedule will consist of during the 2022-23 term. Let’s have a gander.

Syracuse basketball will get a rematch with a quality foe this coming season.

According to college basketball insider Jon Rothstein, who cited a source in a recent tweet, the ‘Cuse will host Bryant as part of its 2022-23 non-conference calendar.

Bryant, which is based in Smithfield, R.I., competes in the Northeast Conference. The Bulldogs had a really nice 2021-22 stanza, as they finished up at 22-10 overall, including a 15-2 mark in league play.

In its most recent campaign, Bryant set a program record for victories (as a Division I program), while capturing the Northeast Conference’s regular-season and post-season tournament crowns.

The Bulldogs suited up in the NCAA Tournament for the first time ever at the Division I level this past March, earning a No. 16 seed. Playing fellow No. 16 seed Wright State in the First Four from Dayton, Ohio, Bryant lost by a count of 93-82.

The Orange and the Bulldogs, in 2022-23, will battle for just the second occasion. In November 2020, to kick off the 2020-21 season, they played inside the Carrier Dome, and Syracuse basketball squeaked by Bryant, 85-84.

As far as the Orange’s non-conference docket in 2022-23, the squad is also expected to compete in the 2022 Empire Classic, with the other participants reportedly being Richmond (yuck), former Big East Conference rival St. John’s and Temple.

According to a prior announcement on cuse.com, Syracuse basketball is also planning to welcome long-time nemesis Georgetown to Central New York as part of the 2022-23 stanza.

I could also foresee nearby neighbors Colgate and Cornell traveling to the Hill in 2022-23. We’ll certainly continue to monitor other non-conference game announcements for the Orange that pop up between now and this fall.
