Syracuse basketball 2024 four-star recruiting target Robert Wright III recently helped lead his Philadelphia high-school squad to a state championship, and a high-school hoops expert thinks that Wright and his teammates are positioned well to do stellar things next season.
Not too long ago, the talented 6-foot-1 point guard collected 16 points, six rebounds and seven assists as Neumann-Goretti High School defeated Quaker Valley High School out of Leetsdale, Pa., by a final of 93-68 to capture the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (“PIAA”) 4A state title for the 2021-22 campaign.
As Neumann-Goretti High School went on its excellent post-season run, Wright averaged an impressive 21.8 points per contest, according to Rich Flanagan, who writes for the Philadelphia Sports Digest and City of Basketball Love.
For the entire 2021-22 stanza, Wright generated 19.3 points, 4.3 assists, 5.2 rebounds and 1.4 steals a game, per his bio on the MaxPreps Web site. Neumann-Goretti High School, by the way, wrapped up the most recent term with an overall mark of 23-4.
Syracuse basketball recently got into the recruiting mix for point guard Robert Wright III.
Last month, the Orange coaching staff offered a scholarship to Wright, who as a member of the 2024 cycle is a sophomore in high school.
Besides being a stand-out for Neumann-Goretti High School, Wright competes for the Philadelphia-based Team Final, which is one of the premier AAU groups on Nike’s EYBL grassroots basketball circuit.
Samad Hines, a well-respected high-school hoops analyst and scout, recently published an article on theseasonticket.com where he took a look at a variety of high-school squads that he believes should receive some national recognition in the 2022-23 season.
"Hines writes that Neumann-Goretti High School could begin the 2022-23 term as a nationally ranked top-25 team. He wrote in part, “Neumann-Goretti is expected to bring back just about everyone from this year’s team for the 2022-2023 season. This team was very young and had the talent to capture the PIAA state championship at an early stage.”"
A key piece of the Neumann-Goretti roster is undeniably Wright. I haven’t found him rated on a national scale at this juncture by a lot of the primary recruiting services.
However, given his sophomore-year performance at Neumann-Goretti, should Wright fare well at AAU events during the spring and summer months, I would find it hard to imagine if he doesn’t arrive as a consensus four-star, top-100 prospect in the 2024 class.
His recruiting process likely has a long way to go, and already Wright holds scholarship offers from college squads including the ‘Cuse, Miami, Wake Forest, Seton Hall, VCU, Wichita State, La Salle and Delaware State, according to recruiting services.
