The recruiting sweepstakes over 2022 four-star guard Judah Mintz are expected to culminate in the next week or so, and a lot of Syracuse basketball fans are bracing for this consensus top-80 player to pick a college squad other than the Orange.

I get it. A lot of signs (and speculation) point to the 6-foot-3 Mintz picking Big East Conference member DePaul, which is one of four schools he recently took an official visit to, along with the ‘Cuse, Wake Forest and N.C. State.

The chatter that I’ve been reading on social media and in chat rooms, and I admit this is speculation, is that the recruitment of Mintz could potentially be a two-team race between DePaul and Syracuse basketball, with the Blue Demons presumably in the lead.

According to media reports, the standout senior at the powerhouse Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Va., is planning to reveal his college choice at the upcoming 2022 GEICO Nationals, which will run from March 31 through April 2 at the Suncoast Credit Union Arena in Fort Myers, Fla.

By the way, if you want to watch Mintz compete at this season’s GEICO Nationals, the No. 5 seed Oak Hill Academy will play in the quarterfinals on Thursday, March 31, beginning at 12 pm on ESPNU versus the No. 4 seed Link Academy in Branson, Mo.

A well-respected recruiting analyst weighs in on Syracuse basketball target Judah Mintz.

As we’ve noted in a couple of columns of late, at least two predictions for Mintz in the direction of DePaul have come in on the 247Sports Web site.

On3 national analyst Jamie Shaw has logged a projection for the Blue Demons, too. And Pro Insight director of scouting Andrew Slater seems to like DePaul’s chances as well.

This Big East squad has solid recruiting momentum, having recently secured 2022 four-star guard Zion Cruz, a senior at the Donda Academy in Simi Valley, Calif.

"Eric Bossi, the national basketball director for 247Sports, wrote in part about the Orange recruiting target, “Mintz has had a terrific senior season at Oak Hill and has really developed as a decision maker to go along with his already established ability to fill it up off the bounce. He’s expected to announce his decision during next week’s Geico Nationals and the latest buzz around him has been suggesting that DePaul just may be the team to beat.”"

On a national scale in the 2022 cycle, Judah Mintz is ranked No. 35 by ESPN, No. 50 by the On3 Consensus, No. 53 by the 247Sports Composite, No. 56 by Rivals.com, No. 73 by 247Sports and No. 79 by On3.
