If new Syracuse basketball 2024 four-star recruiting target Robert Wright III was in any way flying under the radar on a national basis up until now, my sense is that this is going to change, and quickly.

Although only a sophomore at his high school in Philadelphia, the 6-foot-1 point guard performed at a ridiculously stellar level as his squad just captured a state championship, according to media reports.

Wright tallied 16 points, six rebounds and seven assists as Neumann-Goretti High School defeated Quaker Valley High School out of Leetsdale, Pa., by a final count of 93-68 to claim the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (“PIAA”) 4A state title, the 9th such prize for Neumann-Goretti in program history, per reports.

During his squad’s exquisite post-season run in the 2021-22 stanza, Wright tallied 21.8 points per contest, according to a tweet from Rich Flanagan, who writes for the Philadelphia Sports Digest and City of Basketball Love.

Syracuse basketball recently got into the mix for four-star Robert Wright III.

High-school hoops analyst and scout Samad Hines notes in a tweet that Neumann-Goretti High School wrapped up this campaign at 23-4 overall, and he believes the Saints will likely begin the 2022-23 term as a top-25 group.

According to his bio on the MaxPreps Web site, Wright in 2021-22 has averaged 19.4 points, 4.2 assists, 5.2 rebounds and 1.4 steals per encounter, although I’m not sure if these statistics include the most recent game.

About two weeks ago, Wright disclosed via Twitter that the ‘Cuse coaching staff had offered him a scholarship. Per recruiting services, besides Syracuse basketball, his other offers include from Miami, Wake Forest, Seton Hall, VCU, Wichita State, La Salle and Delaware State.

Trust me when I say that Wright’s offer list is going to significantly grow, sooner rather than later. A member of the All-Catholic first team for the 2021-22 season, Wright is placed at No. 72 across the country in the 2024 cycle, according to theseasonticket.com.

With his tremendous sophomore year at Neumann-Goretti High School, and opportunities to further shine at AAU events in the near future, I’m confident that Wright will see his national rankings soar as he begins to get rated by some of the primary recruiting services.

Plus, in a few months, when college coaches can directly communicate with 2024 prospects, it wouldn’t surprise me in the least if a ton of big-time squads start pursuing Wright.

It’s encouraging that Syracuse basketball coaches have gotten involved with him early on, as competition for Wright’s future services in college will only intensify.
