Syracuse basketball coaches continue to delve further into the 2024 recruiting cycle, with the Orange’s latest scholarship offer going to a stellar point guard who suits up for a high school in Philadelphia where several former ‘Cuse stars also played in past years.

Robert Wright III, a 6-foot-1 sophomore at Neumann-Goretti High School in Philly, has picked up an offer from the ‘Cuse coaching staff, Wright recently said via Twitter.

From what I can tell, this young man can flat-out ball. He has been named to the All-Catholic first team for the 2021-22 campaign. When I penned this column, Wright’s bio on the MaxPreps Web site said that he was averaging 18.8 points, 4.1 assists, 5.2 rebounds and 1.4 steals per contest, which is excellent.

The name Neumann-Goretti may sound familiar to some of my fellow Orange hoops fanatics. Both Scoop Jardine and Rick Jackson competed for that high school, which has produced many great teams over the years, and another former Neumann-Goretti player is Quade Green.

Green, as you may recall, was a five-star point guard in the 2017 class who ended up choosing Kentucky, with his other finalist being the ‘Cuse. He would later transfer to Mike Hopkins-led Washington.

Syracuse basketball has jumped into the mix for a Philly point guard.

Let’s take a look at Wright’s recruiting process to date. Since he’s only a sophomore, I imagine that many more offers will arrive for him, but those college teams that have already offered him include Miami, Wake Forest, Seton Hall, VCU, Wichita State, La Salle and Delaware State, according to media reports, recruiting services and Wright’s own Twitter account.

Although he’s not nationally ranked by all of the primary recruiting services, at least not for the time being, Wright did check in as four stars and No. 72 overall within the 2024 class, according to theseasonticket.com.

My sense is that he’ll be a consensus top-75 to top-100 prospect in 2024 per all of the main recruiting services at some point in the future.

In the 2024 cycle, Syracuse basketball coaches have offered a handful of other prospects. Among them are five-star point guard Elliot Cadeau of Bergen Catholic High School in Oradell, N.J., four-star power forward Donnie Freeman of St. John’s College High School in Washington, D.C., five-star power forward Derik Queen of the Montverde Academy in Montverde, Fla., and four-star center Yves Missi of the West Nottingham Academy in Colora, Md.

I’m really excited by Wright’s potential at the collegiate level, and we’ll of course continue to monitor his recruitment moving forward.
