Syracuse basketball has dropped two Atlantic Coast Conference contests in a row, and now the Orange has a quick turnaround as the ‘Cuse prepares to battle North Carolina on Monday evening.

The Orange is winding down its 2021-22 regular season, and the team has endured a pretty brutal stretch of late. The ‘Cuse, as it faces the Tar Heels, will have played five games in a span of nine days.

Last week, the Orange (15-14, 9-9) fell at Notre Dame by 10 points in an encounter where the ‘Cuse had a golden opportunity to pick up a road victory versus one of the league’s best squads. More recently, this past Saturday night before a huge Carrier Dome crowd, then-No. 7 Duke arrived on the Hill and absolutely blew out the Orange, 97-72.

The ‘Cuse has just two games left in the 2021-22 regular stanza, at UNC and then at home against Miami on March 5. Sadly, the Orange is in real jeopardy of putting forth its first losing term under head coach Jim Boeheim.

If the ‘Cuse hopes to finish above the .500 mark this season, the Orange could really use a success at North Carolina (21-8, 13-5), a group that is presently No. 3 in the ACC standings and has captured three-consecutive triumphs.

Syracuse at North Carolina on Monday

The Tar Heels are in their first campaign under head coach Hubert Davis, who took over the reins from the legendary Roy Williams, who won three national championships at UNC. In his first season, Davis has registered a solid record to date, although it’s not necessarily what the fan base is used to in Chapel Hill.

Like the ‘Cuse, North Carolina is a really good offensive unit, shooting at high clips from the field, from beyond the arc, and from the charity stripe. Per the historical norm, UNC is an excellent rebounding team.

The Tar Heels don’t struggle on defense as much as the Orange does, but at the same time, North Carolina isn’t all that great on that end of the floor. The ‘Cuse certainly has a chance to tally a sizable number of points in this ACC affair, but the real question is whether the Orange can make enough stops in its zone to come out on top.

As much as I love my alma mater, I don’t foresee the ‘Cuse knocking off the Tar Heels away from Central New York. I’ll go with UNC to prevail, handing the Orange its third-straight setback.
