One of the primary recruiting services on Tuesday refreshed its national rankings of the top-150 players in the 2022 class, and a new Syracuse basketball target has seen his rating soar.
Rivals.com now has 2022 four-star guard Judah Mintz at No. 56 across the country in this cycle. The 6-foot-3 Mintz previously checked in at No. 68 in the Rivals.com rankings, so he climbed 12 spots in this new update.
Mintz, who was once verbally committed to fellow Atlantic Coast Conference squad Pittsburgh, said last November that he was reopening his recruitment back up.
More recently, media reports surfaced that there is mutual interest among Orange coaches and Mintz. He recently held a Zoom call with ‘Cuse coaches, and as we detailed earlier this week, Mintz is scheduled to take an official visit to the Hill from February 25-27.
Per reports from SyracuseOnSI publisher Mike McAllister and others, Mintz will also travel to DePaul on February 8-10, N.C. State on February 17-19 and Wake Forest on March 2-4.
Syracuse basketball four-star recruiting prospect Judah Mintz is a hot commodity in 2022.
I’m not a recruiting analyst, nor am I in Mintz’s inner circle. However, based on reports that I’ve read of late and comments from recruiting insiders, it does seem like the Orange has a legit shot at winning out for this elite guard in the 2022 class.
Mintz, who hails from Washington, D.C., is a senior at the powerhouse Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Va. He also suits up on the grassroots basketball circuit for the Team Durant, an excellent AAU group that is based in the D.C. area.
As we’ve noted in other prior columns on Mintz, throughout his recruiting process he has received nearly 20 scholarship offers from a range of high-major programs, although my sense is that the four schools which he is visiting are likely at the top of his list these days.
Syracuse basketball already has a strong five-member class in the 2022 cycle that ranks in the top-25 nationwide, according to some recruiting services. That being said, ‘Cuse 2022 signees have gotten shut out of some recent updates in national ratings for this class.
Mintz, if he were to pick Syracuse basketball, would provide a huge jolt to the team’s 2022 cycle. Besides his new Rivals.com placement of No. 56, Mintz came in at No. 35 overall when ESPN refreshed its 2022 rankings not too long ago.
At the time of this writing, the industry-generated 247Sports Composite had Mintz at No. 53 nationally, No. 9 at combo guard and No. 2 in Virginia. Numerous recruiting services deem him as a top-10 shooting guard or a top-10 combo guard in the 2022 class.
