Syracuse basketball has exploded on offense over the past two encounters, both good wins for the team in building confidence and momentum. Now the Orange is set to try and increase its success streak to three when the ‘Cuse hosts struggling Louisville this coming Saturday afternoon.

The Orange followed up a dominating victory against Wake Forest last weekend by pulling away from N.C. State on the road this past Wednesday evening in an 89-82 conquest of the Wolfpack. All five starters for the ‘Cuse played quite well, and the Orange as a collective unit shot lights-out from the field once again.

The ‘Cuse (11-11, 5-6) has climbed back to the .500 mark and has an excellent opportunity to grab a win this Saturday when it faces the Cardinals at the Carrier Dome.

I mean no disrespect here, but Louisville (11-11, 5-7) is kind of a mess right now. The Cardinals recently parted ways with their head coach, Chris Mack, and Louisville has dropped four straight Atlantic Coast Conference affairs, including three of them on their own turf.

Syracuse vs. Louisville on Saturday

The ‘Cuse, in beating Wake Forest and then N.C. State, has proven highly efficient in shooting the ball from 3-point land, but the real story here is that the Orange is taking, and making, many of its shots from inside the perimeter.

I believe that is a successful recipe to keep on winning for the ‘Cuse, so long as the team also rebounds at a strong clip, limits its turnovers, and stays laser-focused on defense.

It’s true that Louisville allows about six fewer points per contest on the defensive side than the Orange, but the ‘Cuse offense averages nearly 78 points a game, as compared to 69 points for the Cardinals.

Simply put, Louisville is not a good shooting team, from the field, from 3-point range and from the charity stripe. The key here is that the Orange has to be stellar on the defensive glass and not let the Cardinals obtain a ton of second-chance points.

The last time that the ‘Cuse was on the Hill, the crowd was electric, and I expect more of the same when Louisville invades Central New York. I’ll go with the Orange to prevail in this match-up.
