After a really impressive victory on the Hill over the weekend, Syracuse basketball heads out on the road for an Atlantic Coast Conference clash this Wednesday evening against N.C. State.

The Orange (10-11, 4-6) had recently fallen twice in a row on the road in ugly fashion, to Duke and Pittsburgh, before playing its best basketball of the 2021-22 season this past Saturday night.

The entire ‘Cuse roster meaningfully contributed, with senior shooting guard Buddy Boeheim and senior forward Cole Swider leading the charge, as the Orange put the clamps down on Wake Forest in the second half to come away with a 94-72 victory over one of the ACC’s premier squads in 2021-22.

Not only did the ‘Cuse offense explode versus the Demon Deacons, but also the Orange’s zone defense was pretty darn solid in limiting Wake Forest to just 30 points after halftime. Now the ‘Cuse will visit N.C. State (10-12, 3-8), a group that is struggling by and large in the present term.

The Wolfpack has lost two consecutive league encounters over the past week or so, first suffering an eight-point defeat at Notre Dame, followed up by a 20-point trouncing at the hands of in-state rival North Carolina on the road this past Saturday.

The Orange performed at a high level in besting the Demon Deacons on the Hill, but let’s see how the ‘Cuse fares away from the Carrier Dome against N.C. State.

Similar to the ‘Cuse, the Wolfpack can score at a relatively high clip, but N.C. State often struggles on the defensive end of the court. Per ESPN statistics, the Wolfpack is averaging 75.0 points a game, which is solid, but the team is giving up a sub-par 74.9 points on defense.

In an encouraging sign, the Orange zone defense was excellent versus Wake Forest, so if the ‘Cuse can replicate that kind of effort and continue to put up points on the scoreboard, the Orange will have an excellent chance to conquer N.C. State on the road.

I think that the win against the Demon Deacons will prove a major confidence booster for the ‘Cuse, and I’ll project the Orange to knock off the Wolfpack on its own turf.
