Syracuse Basketball: Mutual interest with 2022 4-star guard, who eyes visit
By Neil Adler
There is mutual interest between Syracuse basketball coaches and one of the best guards in the 2022 cycle, and this prospect is looking to take an official visit to the Hill at some point in February, according to a media report.
SyracuseOnSI publisher Mike McAllister, who is the best out there as far as breaking Orange-related recruiting news, wrote a piece in which he talked to 2022 four-star guard Judah Mintz, who de-committed from Pittsburgh last November and is exploring his options. By the way, I’d highly recommend giving Mike a follow on social media and subscribing to his publication.
According to McAllister’s report, Mintz conducted a Zoom call with ‘Cuse coaches this past Sunday. Mintz noted that he’s looking to make an official visit to the Orange “as soon as I can.” Obviously, this is highly encouraging news.
Syracuse basketball could emerge as a contender for guard Judah Mintz.
As we detailed in a column on Sunday, the 6-foot-3 Mintz is a senior at the Mouth of Wilson, Va.-based Oak Hill Academy, which is one of the premier basketball programs out there across the country.
He is from Washington, D.C., a market that the ‘Cuse has fared well in, recruiting-wise, over the years, and Mintz plays on the AAU circuit for Team Durant, which is based in the D.C. region.
As Pro Insight director of scouting Andrew Slater recently reported, Mintz has official visits scheduled for DePaul on February 8-10 and to N.C. State on February 17-19.
Besides those schools and Syracuse basketball, Mintz is eyeing a trip to Wake Forest, per McAllister’s story, adding that West Virginia also appears to be showing interest in Mintz.
According to recruiting services, throughout Mintz’s recruitment, he has received a bevy of scholarship offers, from teams such as Tennessee, George Mason, Wake Forest, Georgetown, Florida, Penn State, Marquette, Maryland, LSU, Seton Hall, DePaul, Northwestern, Texas Tech, Iona, South Carolina, N.C. State, Virginia Tech and Xavier.
ESPN recently updated its national ratings for the 2022 class, and Mintz arrived at No. 35 overall and No. 7 at shooting guard.
When I penned this piece, the industry-generated 247Sports Composite ranked Mintz at No. 53 nationally, No. 9 at combo guard and No. 2 in Virginia.
Without question, the possibility of Syracuse basketball picking up a top-10 guard in the 2022 cycle is really exciting for ‘Cuse fans, although we’ll have to see how Mintz’s recruitment pans out.
The Orange, at present, has five signees in its 2022 class, including a four-star point guard and a four-star shooting guard.
