Could Syracuse basketball be in play for 2022 4-star guard, top-35 player?

Syracuse basketball already has a solid five-member class in 2022, but it seems that Orange coaches are making contact with another prospect in this cycle who de-committed from a fellow Atlantic Coast Conference squad late last year.

Pro Insight director of scouting Andrew Slater said via Twitter that 2022 four-star guard Judah Mintz has a Zoom call set up with Syracuse basketball.

Slater added in this tweet that the 6-foot-3 Mintz also has a Zoom lined up with Wake Forest, along with official visits planned to DePaul on February 8-10 and to N.C. State on February 17-19. We’ll obviously continue to monitor Mintz’s recruitment and whether the ‘Cuse becomes more involved with him.

According to recruiting services, Mintz is from Washington, D.C. On the AAU circuit, he suits up for Team Durant, which is based in the D.C. area. He’s also a senior stand-out for the Mouth of Wilson, Va.-based Oak Hill Academy, which is one of the premier basketball academies nationwide.

Syracuse basketball may be showing interest in four-star Judah Mintz.

Listed as a combo guard or a shooting guard, Mintz de-committed from Pittsburgh on November 10 of last year. I took a look at his bio on various recruiting Web sites to see what other scholarship offers he has received, although full disclosure, I don’t know how many of these schools are actively pursuing him now.

In any event, his other offers include from Tennessee, George Mason, Wake Forest, Georgetown, Florida, Penn State, Marquette, Maryland, LSU, Seton Hall, DePaul, Northwestern, Texas Tech, Iona, South Carolina, N.C. State, Virginia Tech and Xavier.

The Oak Hill Academy is part of the eight-member National Interscholastic Basketball Conference, and I’ve watched some of Mintz’s games during the 2021-22 campaign. He’s really, really good.

When ESPN recently updated its 2022 player rankings, Mintz checked in at No. 35 overall and No. 7 at shooting guard. At the time of this writing, the industry-generated 247Sports Composite placed him at No. 53 nationally, No. 9 at combo guard and No. 2 in Virginia.

Jerry Meyer, an excellent national analyst for 247Sports, wrote an evaluation on Mintz last November, which you can view here. Meyer had a lot of positive things to say about Mintz.

Now, it remains to be seen whether Syracuse basketball becomes a formidable player in his recruitment. If that occurs, I’d also be interested to follow whether that could, in any way, affect the commitments of the Orange’s 2022 signees.

I’m not saying it will, but it’s something to keep an eye out for, given that the ‘Cuse 2022 cycle already features a four-star point guard and a four-star shooting guard.
