Syracuse basketball 4-star, 5-star targets put up big-time numbers in wins
By Neil Adler
A handful of Syracuse basketball four-star and five-star recruiting targets have in recent days produced some monster performances that we’re going to highlight in this piece.
Most of the Orange recruiting prospects saw their high school or prep teams emerge victorious, but not all of them did. By the way, statistics for these players came courtesy of various tweets by The HS Circuit.
G.G. Jackson, a 2023 five-star power forward, led his squad with 22 points, although Ridge View High School in Columbia, S.C., lost by a count of 52-47 to Beaumont United High School from Beaumont, Texas.
The 6-foot-8 Jackson, rated by many recruiting services as a top-10 prospect in this cycle, received a scholarship offer from the Orange in August of 2020. It was his first offer from a college team.
Let’s check in on a few other Syracuse basketball recruiting targets.
Blue Cain, a four-star shooting guard, is an elite bucket-getter in the 2023 class. He poured in 26 points as his squad, Knoxville Catholic High School in Knoxville, Tenn., beat the Knoxville Christian School, also located in Knoxville, 77-57.
Cain said on his Twitter page in February of 2021 that the ‘Cuse coaching staff offered him. At the time of this writing, the industry-generated 247Sports Composite ranked the 6-foot-4 Cain as a top-70 player in the 2023 cycle.
Papa Kante, a four-star big man in the junior class, is reportedly a top target of Syracuse basketball coaches in 2023, and media reports have suggested that Kante plans to visit the Hill at some point.
Kante tallied 18 points as his squad, the South Kent School in South Kent, Conn., bested the Vermont Academy from Saxton’s River, Vt., by a margin of 87-54. The 6-foot-10 power forward/center landed an Orange offer this past August at the team’s annual Elite Camp.
Justin Edwards, a 2023 five-star small forward, led the way with 17 points and seven rebounds as his group, the Imhotep Institute Charter High School in Philadelphia, conquered Vashon High School from St. Louis, 51-47.
The 6-foot-7 Edwards picked up an offer from the ‘Cuse this past July, although the buzz from some recruiting analysts is that Edwards is focused on some other suitors, at least for now.
Finally, 2023 four-star big man Isaiah Miranda registered 12 points and a whopping 13 boards as his squad, the Springfield Commonwealth Academy in Springfield, Mass., beat the Lee Academy from Lee, Maine, in a tight battle, 78-72.
The 7-foot-1 Miranda, a power forward/center, was offered by Syracuse basketball coaches in late November. Per the 247Sports Composite, he is a top-35 prospect and a top-five center in the 2023 class.
