Syracuse basketball will look to snap its two-game losing streak when the Orange heads to Wake Forest this Saturday afternoon for an Atlantic Coast Conference clash.

Earlier this week, the ‘Cuse (7-7, 1-2) held an 18-point lead against red-hot Miami on the road, but a boatload of turnovers ultimately played a key role in the Orange falling by one point to the Hurricanes.

The Demon Deacons (12-3, 2-2) are one of the pleasant surprises to date in the 2021-22 campaign within the ACC. Most recently, on January 4, Wake Forest absolutely crushed Florida State at home.

In looking at the Demon Deacons’ resume, they have beaten teams such as the aforementioned Seminoles, Northwestern and Virginia Tech. Wake Forest’s three losses are at a neutral site to LSU, as well as on the road in close contests to Louisville and Miami.

Syracuse at Wake Forest Today

The Demon Deacons are a good scoring squad, averaging 80.2 points per encounter, according to ESPN statistics. Wake Forest also allows about eight points fewer on defense than the ‘Cuse, which isn’t surprising given that the Orange has struggled defensively on many occasions in the 2021-22 stanza.

At the time of this writing, kenpom.com had the Demon Deacons at No. 52 nationally, which is solid. Additionally, Wake Forest was ranked No. 45 in the NCAA’s NET rankings, which is among the best within the ACC.

At 7-7, the ‘Cuse is in a fairly dire position if it wants to even think about reaching the post-season, although in all fairness, there are plenty of games left in the 2021-22 term. That being said, the Orange’s collision with Wake Forest is a huge opportunity for the ‘Cuse to notch a road triumph versus a high-quality foe.

While I believe that the Orange will keep things close versus the Demon Deacons, much like it did against Miami, I’ll go with Wake Forest to prevail.
