Over the summer, I wrote but never published a list of Syracuse football players I thought could be successful in WWE. I narrowed it down to three Orange players eventually but never published it. One of those names was DL Josh Black and it turns out the WWE reportedly agreed.

It turns out as Josh tweeted, the WWE has offered him an invitation to discuss the opportunity. Josh has a great and outgoing personality and has been a great representative of Syracuse University during his time in the football program. This could be a great opportunity for him to utilize that personality as well as his athleticism that even caught the attention of The Rock not long ago.

If he does pursue this route, Josh is not the first pro wrestler from Syracuse University and not even the only one currently doing it. Impact Wrestling champion Moose is actually former OL Quinn Ojinnaka who was a 2006 NFL draft pick. Also right now Omari Palmer, another former Orange OL, is currently wrestling with NXT (WWE developmental group) under the ring name Odyssey Jones.

Syracuse football player Josh Black would do well in WWE.

If you’re an older Syracuse/professional wrestling fan like me, you may also know that the late The Destroyer (and also Doctor X) Dick Beyer was an Orangeman on the SU wrestling team. Not to mention WCW/WWF former wrestler and producer Mike Rotunda (aka IRS in WWF and WallStreet in the nWo).

I wish Josh nothing but the best should he agree to pursue this route in life and look forward to cheering him on. According to his bio on the ESPN Web site, Josh is listed at 6-foot-3 and 290 pounds, which according to most wrestling discussions is big enough to fit the look management in WWE generally likes along with his athleticism.

Maybe one day soon we could be watching WWE NXT and see him on television though likely with a different ring name (how about Lady’s Man Romeo Black?).
