Syracuse basketball looks to bounce back after a tough loss at home to Virginia over the weekend when the Orange travels to Miami for an Atlantic Coast Conference showdown on Wednesday night.

The ‘Cuse (7-6, 1-1) rang in the new year this past Saturday with a 74-69 setback in Central New York to the Cavaliers. That snapped a two-game success streak for the Orange, which had recently knocked off Ivy League members Brown and then Cornell.

To put it mildly, the ‘Cuse defense is really struggling. Now the Orange will battle the Hurricanes (11-3, 3-0), a squad that also scores a sizable amount of points on offense but isn’t that stellar on defense, either.

In all fairness, the ‘Cuse has played a pretty darn tough schedule to date in the 2021-22 term. Miami’s docket so far probably hasn’t proven quite as daunting, but the Hurricanes enter this league affair on a roll, having won seven in a row.

Most recently, Miami dispatched of Wake Forest on its own turf last Saturday evening. The Hurricanes and the Demon Deacons are two pleasant surprises at this juncture in the topsy-turvy ACC, and these two groups also happen to be the Orange’s next pair of opponents.

Syracuse at Miami Prediction Tonight

This ACC encounter could end up being one filled with offensive fireworks. Per ESPN statistics, the ‘Cuse is averaging 78.2 points per game and allowing 75.6 points. The Hurricanes, meanwhile, are scoring 76.4 points per meeting and giving up 72.8 points.

Those defensive numbers for both teams, by the way, are among the worst throughout the entire ACC.

Last year, the Orange crushed Miami on the Hill by a final margin of 83-57. I honestly can’t figure out this season’s version of the ‘Cuse. The Orange has two good wins, over Florida State and Indiana, but several head-scratching losses.

While the ‘Cuse did take care of the Seminoles on the road, I don’t envision the Orange besting Miami in the Sunshine State. I’ve got the Hurricanes over the ‘Cuse, dropping the Orange to a .500 mark in the 2021-22 term.
