Syracuse Basketball: 5-star Canadian target balls out at prestigious event
By Neil Adler
Canadian five-star wing Elijah Fisher, who received a Syracuse basketball offer back in the summer of 2020, recently showed why he’s one of the best all-around prospects within the 2023 recruiting cycle.
The 6-foot-7 Fisher, a junior at the Crestwood Preparatory College in Toronto, Ontario, played at an extremely high level during the prestigious 2021 City of Palms Classic, which was recently held at the Suncoast Credit Union Arena in Fort Myers, Fla.
According to tweets from The HS Circuit, in one game, Fisher recorded 22 points, five rebounds and two steals in his team’s win over Victory Rock Prep out of Bradenton, Fla.
In a second contest, the Crestwood Preparatory College fell to the nationally ranked Combine Academy from Lincolnton, N.C. Fisher, though, was magnificent, tallying 25 points, seven rebounds, six assists and four steals versus the Combine Academy.
Fisher, a consensus top-20 player in his class, is certainly known as an elite scorer, but he also filled up the stat sheet in other ways at the City of Palms Classic.
Let’s update the recruitment of Elijah Fisher, who holds a Syracuse basketball offer.
A recent tweet from recruiting analyst Joe Tipton says that, these days, Fisher is hearing the most from Alabama, Memphis, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech.
Does that mean the Orange is out of the running for Fisher? I hope not. The ‘Cuse got into the recruiting mix for him relatively early on in Fisher’s recruitment, and Syracuse basketball has fared well recruiting Canadian prospects over the years.
That being said, I haven’t seen Fisher note the Orange much of late when he has given interviews, but again, this doesn’t mean the ‘Cuse is out of contention for him, at least from my perspective.
Fisher, understandably, owns a bunch of impressive scholarship offers from a range of other high-major squads, including Kentucky, Kansas, 2021 national champion Baylor, Florida State, Arizona, Florida, Oregon, Seton Hall, West Virginia and Southern California.
Given his skill-set and talent, Fisher is likely to be an NBA Draft prospect, and he has said that his goal is to be a one-and-done player at the collegiate level.
To date, I haven’t seen any predictions from recruiting insiders on the 247Sports Web site or Rivals.com as to a potential college destination for Fisher.
Other college teams may be in a better position with him for the time being, but I wouldn’t completely rule out Syracuse basketball just yet.
