Syracuse basketball coaches offered a scholarship to 2023 four-star shooting guard Reid Ducharme this past August at the team’s annual Elite Camp.
These days, the ‘Cuse coaching staff is apparently in regular communications with the 6-foot-6 Ducharme, according to a media report.
Ducharme is a junior at the Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, N.H., which has sent numerous guys to the Hill in recent years. While the sharp-shooting 2023 prospect could have a way to go with his recruitment, it sounds to me like the Orange is firmly in the mix for Ducharme.
Jamie Shaw, a national analyst with Rivals.com, said in a piece that Ducharme averaged 11.5 points and connected on roughly 43 percent from beyond the arc at the recently held 2021 National Prep Showcase, a prestigious event that took place in New Haven, Conn.
Let’s look at the recruiting process of Syracuse basketball four-star target Reid Ducharme.
As we noted in a column around the time that the ‘Cuse offered Ducharme, he has other offers from teams including Connecticut, Providence, Stanford, Iowa, UMass, DePaul, Harvard and Brown. I’ve also seen reports suggesting Ducharme holds interest from Virginia, Ohio State, Marquette and Arizona, among others.
Most recruiting services rate Ducharme as a four-star player. At the time of this writing, the industry-generated 247Sports Composite ranked Ducharme at No. 87 overall within the 2023 cycle, as well as a top-20 shooting guard.
Rivals.com, meanwhile, places Ducharme at No. 98 nationally in his class. In mid-September, Syracuse basketball coaches took a trip to the Brewster Academy to visit with Ducharme and some of his prep-school teammates, according to reports at the time.
More recently, Ducharme said in his interview with Rivals.com’s Shaw that he has been “hearing from Syracuse and Providence a lot. Also, a lot of the Ivy League schools have been on me heavy. I have taken a couple of visits to Providence; that’s about it, really. I am focused on basketball right now and winning a championship here.”
"Orange assistant coach Gerry McNamara has been talking with Ducharme a lot, according to the Brewster Academy player, who added, “I am a junior; there is time for me. I want to go to a place where I can be developed as a player. I want to be close to the staff. Family is super important to me. Really, a team that is going to work really hard and stay together.”"
Shaw said that Ducharme has good size for his position, and he plays with confidence and toughness. Known as a shooter, Ducharme can also finish around the rim well, and he is a strong defender with a high basketball IQ.
We’ll obviously continue to monitor any and all involvement that Syracuse basketball has with Ducharme’s recruitment. I’d love to see him take an official visit to the ‘Cuse at some point in the future.
