Syracuse basketball opens its Atlantic Coast Conference competition during the 2021-22 regular season with a daunting road battle against Florida State, which has proven one of the premier teams in the league over the past few years.

Earlier this week, the Orange (4-3) got back into the win column when it outlasted Indiana, 112-110 in double overtime, as part of this term’s ACC-Big Ten Challenge. Prior to that result, the ‘Cuse had dropped three of its past four games, with the team’s 2-3 zone defense really struggling.

The Seminoles (5-2), meanwhile, were ranked in the top 20 of The Associated Press’ pre-season poll, but FSU has lost a pair of contests to date in 2021-22 and is no longer nationally rated in that ballot.

This past Tuesday evening, on the same night that the Orange defeated the Hoosiers, Florida State also suited up in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge. The Seminoles, though, were absolutely crushed at No. 2 Purdue by a final count of 93-65.

The present stanza is in its relative infancy, but FSU hasn’t looked overly impressive so far in 2021-22. Besides the lopsided setback to Purdue, the Seminoles have also fallen to in-state rival Florida by 16 points.

Plus, Florida State’s wins in 2021-22 don’t exactly knock my socks off. Regardless, Seminoles head coach Leonard Hamilton is exquisite, and this will be a really challenging contest for the ‘Cuse.

Syracuse vs. Florida State Prediction Tonight

I think that the ‘Cuse will hang tough with the Seminoles, especially after the Orange’s gritty conquest of Indiana, which hopefully has restored some confidence for the ‘Cuse. However, FSU is awfully difficult to conquer on its own turf, and I’m sure that Florida State players will want to shake off that ugly performance versus the Boilermakers.

It wouldn’t surprise me if the Orange stuns the Seminoles, but if I’m making a projection, I’ll take FSU by a couple of points in this one.
