Four-star wing Gavin Griffiths, a top Syracuse basketball target, is one of the hottest prospects and also one of the fastest-risers of late within the 2023 recruiting cycle, and I’ve seen numerous analysts and scouts in recent months note that the 6-foot-7 small forward is an elite perimeter shooter on a national scale in this class.

In a recent interview with 247Sports national analyst Dushawn London, Griffiths acknowledged that during the AAU circuit over the summer, he spent a lot of time scoring from beyond the arc.

Now as he is focused on his junior season of prep-school ball in Connecticut, Griffiths told London that he wants to continue to enhance his scoring versatility from all three levels, including the perimeter, in the mid-range and around the rim.

"“I really have been working on my inside game,” Griffiths said in the 247Sports interview. “I scored most of my points in the EYBL from three so this high school season when I’m one of the bigger guys on the court I want to get to the hoop and drive a lot more. I think just being able to do that at my high school level then apply it to the high level of the EYBL will be good for my game.”"

Syracuse basketball offered four-star Gavin Griffiths last fall.

Griffiths, who attends the Kingswood Oxford School in West Hartford, Conn., and competes in grassroots hoops events for the Boston-based Expressions Elite Basketball, has seen his national rankings soar in recent months as recruiting services refreshed their 2023 ratings.

He is a consensus top-65 prospect in his class, and Griffiths is ranked as high as No. 35 nationally, according to Rivals.com. Orange coaches got involved with him relatively early on, offering Griffiths a scholarship in October of 2020.

To date, his other offers include from Penn State, Providence, Connecticut, Kansas State, Xavier, Iowa, Maryland, Dayton, Rutgers, Bryant, Fairfield, Hofstra, UMass and Siena.

Per London’s piece, Griffiths has taken an official visit to Iowa as well as unofficial visits to Rutgers, UConn and Providence. He had said in previous interviews with analysts that he was eyeing a possible visit to the Hill and other campuses this fall, but Griffiths says for now he’s focused on his high-school season, rather than on additional visits.

He said to London, “I’m still in the process and waiting to hear from other schools so I don’t have anything planned right now.”

Naturally, I’m hopeful that Griffiths does visit the ‘Cuse down the road.
