It’s that time of year, my friends, as Syracuse basketball kicks off its 2021-22 regular season by hosting Patriot League member Lafayette on Tuesday, Nov. 9, from the Carrier Dome.

The Orange went 2-0 during its exhibition calendar, easily defeating both Pace and Le Moyne. Now things get officially underway for the ‘Cuse, which is deemed by national and Atlantic Coast Conference pundits as a middle-of-the-pack squad in the league.

Regardless of those prognostications, Syracuse basketball will prove entertaining to watch this coming term, as the Orange has a ton of offensive firepower and will tackle a challenging overall regular-stanza docket.

Up first is Lafayette. As we noted in a column a few months back, the ‘Cuse is 8-0 all-time versus the Leopards. During an abbreviated 2020-21 season brought on by the novel coronavirus pandemic, Lafayette went 9-6.

In the Patriot League’s pre-season poll ahead of the 2021-22 campaign, Lafayette was placed in a tie for No. 6 within the conference standings. Syracuse basketball will battle two other Patriot League foes in the Orange’s non-conference line-up, and they are Colgate and Lehigh.

Syracuse vs. Lafayette Prediction Tonight

You never know how the Orange is going to look directly out of the gates in a new stanza, however, I can’t foresee Lafayette upsetting the ‘Cuse in Central New York. Syracuse basketball simply has too many weapons on offense for the Leopards to realistically outscore the Orange.

I’ll go with the ‘Cuse in this one. It’s important for Syracuse basketball to find a groove early in the 2021-22 season, because in the near future the Orange has a boatload of daunting non-conference clashes.
