Syracuse football will look to get back into the win column when the Orange hosts No. 19 Wake Forest on Saturday, Oct. 9, in an afternoon Atlantic Coast Conference showdown.

The ‘Cuse (3-2) lost a heart-breaker at Florida State this past weekend. Yes, there were some questionable calls by the officials, but the Orange had its chances to pick up its first-ever victory on the road against the Seminoles (1-4).

Ultimately, FSU drove down the field in the game’s waning minutes, and the Seminoles kicked a field goal as time expired to come away with a 33-30 conquest in the ACC opener for Syracuse football in the 2021 campaign.

Next up for the Orange is one of the best teams in the ACC. The Demon Deacons (5-0) are at the top of the standings in the league’s Atlantic division, and they’re one of the pleasant surprises in college football to date this stanza.

This past Saturday afternoon in Winston-Salem, N.C., Wake Forest got a field goal in the final minute to squeak past Louisville at home, 37-34.

So far in 2021, the Demon Deacons have a pretty explosive offense, and they’re scoring points in droves. Versus the Cardinals, Wake Forest gained 324 passing yards and 177 rushing yards, according to an announcement from the team’s athletics department.

Syracuse vs. Wake Forest prediction for week 6

Well, last week, I picked the Orange to knock off then-winless Florida State in Tallahassee, Fla. I’m the first to admit that I’m often not right with these predictions.

Syracuse football played its collective heart out against the Seminoles. Being back on its own turf should provide a jolt of energy to the ‘Cuse, but Wake Forest is a formidable adversary.

The Demon Deacons are really, really good on offense, and if the Orange defense isn’t laser-focused, Wake Forest could light up the scoreboard.

In 2020, the Demon Deacons came to Central New York and absolutely crushed the ‘Cuse, to the tune of a 38-14 blow-out success.

There were some positives to take away from the setback to FSU. Quarterback Garrett Shrader, making his second-straight start, was awesome running the ball, and he made a few nice throws.

Running back Sean Tucker did his usual thing. The defense allowed 33 points to Florida State, so it will have to tighten up versus Wake Forest. One key, in my opinion, is that Syracuse football must produce a couple of turnovers on defense and convert them into touchdowns on offense.

Given that the Orange is at home, I think that the ‘Cuse will hang around with Wake Forest, but in the end, the Demon Deacons will prevail, albeit by a touchdown or less.

Syracuse next game and schedule

After the Orange squares off with the Demon Deacons, Syracuse football will welcome perennial ACC heavyweight Clemson to the Hill.

The Tigers aren’t as dominant so far in 2021 as they have proven in recent years, but Clemson will still be a huge challenge for the ‘Cuse.

The Orange and the Tigers are slated to do battle on Friday, Oct. 15, beginning at 7 pm. ESPN will air this encounter.
