When you think of Syracuse athletes representing the 410 (Baltimore, Maryland), I think most Syracuse football fans will tell you Carmelo Anthony is the man, however, it seems lately there is another guy from the 410 who needs some respect put on his name and that’s Orange linebacker Marlowe Wax Jr.

Leading the team in sacks are Cody Roscoe with 5.5 and Marlowe Wax Jr. with 5, ranking them both amongst the top in the nation. Oh, and did I mention that Marlowe is only a second-year freshman because of the extra year of eligibility amid the Covid-19 pandemic?

Marlowe did play in all 11 games last year as a true freshman, finishing with 33 tackles, 5.5 of those for a loss and three sacks. In four games this year alone, he’s topped that sack total already along with 2 forced fumbles and 13 tackles.

Even his own teammate, Mikel Jones, is trying to make sure he gets the credit he deserves when asked about the defense.

Syracuse football linebacker Marlowe Wax Jr. is among the national leaders in sacks.

Among his career highlights at SU in his true freshman year were two sacks against NC State, including one that resulted in a safety. He also had 5 tackles his true freshman year against Duke and two fumbles recovered against State and Notre Dame.

So far, only 4 games in, he’s on pace to not only beat his accomplishments last season but also in some cases, at least double it and be a major force in a 3-3-5 defense that is keeping Syracuse football competitive this season.

Also that Maryland/DC area has its footprint all over this program too. There are DL Caleb Okechukwu (Washington, DC), DL Kingsley Jonathan (Baltimore, MD), OL Dakota Davis (Mount Airy, MD), S Aman Greenwood (Washington, DC), RB Abdul Adams (Landover, MD) and RB Sean Tucker (Owings Mill, MD), plus Marlowe, and I’d say you have a heck of a lineup there alone.

There’s even one of my favorite wide receiver recruits in the 2022 class coming from Maryland named Donovan Brown who just recently took the ball 90 yards for a touchdown during a high school game. So glad to have every one of those players on our team.

Everything I’ve read and seen about Marlowe Wax Jr. tells me he’s a great teammate and motivated to be successful. This team wants badly to wipe away the taste from everyone’s mouth about what happened last season and prove they’re better, and with Marlowe and others already this impactful, this team has bowl potential if not the ACC Championship game in Charlotte.

Also, can we check the water in that Maryland/DC area or at least keep drinking it as much as possible? A little Maryland water obviously makes some sweet Orange Kool-Aid, and with players like Marlowe Wax Jr., I’m drinking that Kool-Aid all day long!

Next. Syracuse Football: After Liberty win, the road to Charlotte begins now. dark
