Syracuse Basketball: Upcoming visit is huge for landing talented big man
By Neil Adler
Under-rated 2022 big man Peter Carey is expected to take an official visit to Syracuse basketball during the weekend of September 24, according to media reports, and I have a feeling that this trip could help potentially seal the deal for the Orange to win out for the 7-foot power forward/center.
Let me just say here that I’m not a recruiting analyst, nor am I in Carey’s inner circle. Based on comments that I’ve read about Carey on social media and in chat rooms of late, it appears that the ‘Cuse could be one of the front-runners, or even the sole front-runner, for the excellent big man.
Carey does hold numerous other high-major offers, and a former Big East Conference foe may prove the Orange’s biggest competition for him, at least for now.
However, if Carey’s upcoming visit to Central New York goes well, and I believe that it will, it could pave the way for him to possibly give a verbal commitment to Syracuse basketball in the near future.
To reiterate, this is simply my own personal opinion. Recruiting processes for high-school players often ebb and flow, and they can change rapidly. Plus, there are other strong suitors out there pursuing Carey.
Syracuse basketball is a leading contender for 2022 big man Peter Carey.
Carey, who recently attended the Orange’s annual Elite Camp, is a senior at the Northfield Mount Hermon School in Mount Hermon, Mass. On the grassroots basketball circuit, he runs with the West Hempstead, N.Y.-based New York Lightning Select.
Although Carey was on an unofficial visit to the Hill during the Elite Camp last month, his upcoming official visit should give him an opportunity to spend time checking out the campus, as well as to meet with ‘Cuse coaches and players.
When 2022 four-star wing Justin Taylor and 2022 four-star point guard Quadir Copeland took official visits to the Orange earlier this summer, those trips ended up playing a key role in each of them verbally committing to Syracuse basketball.
I think that the same could hold true with Carey. His other offers include from St. Bonaventure, Rutgers, Iona, UMass, Bryant, Brown and Albany.
Some of the chatter online is that Rutgers could be the Orange’s biggest threat to prevail in Carey’s recruitment. College basketball insider Adam Zagoria recently tweeted out that Scarlet Knights head coach Steve Pikiell visited Carey at his prep school.
Separately, Zagoria recently tweeted that Syracuse basketball associate head coach Adrian Autry also made a visit to the Northfield Mount Hermon School to see Carey.
